Why is stock rear end raised?

Why is the stock GT500 rear end raised? Do you think the original plan was to put 20" rims on the rear like the Camero is planning?

I wonder if you replace the 18's with 20's if that would have any affect with the wheel hop issue?

Also why the hell do these cars not come with the right equipment from the factory to prevent the wheel hop??? Was there some requirment that they had to meet at the factory which hosed it up?

I think it's combination of keeping production costs to a minimum and providing a car to non-racers with a minumum of NVH - hence the flexy stamped control arms and soft rubber bushings. Ford knew some would mod the car and that the aftermarket would provide parts for that niche.

Everything's a compromise. NVH especially harshness is one of the inputs to the compromise. The stock setup with taller, lower rate springs and more flexible control arms and bushings is a way to help them meet their goals. Most enthusiasts would argue that the goal is perhaps a mistake but I'm sure there are owners that bought the GT500 for the look and prestige and don't push the performance envelope. They probably like the attention to NVH.

Anyone who buys a 500 horsepower Mustang and doesn't light up the tires really needs to grow a pair.

Of tires?? Maybe... balls... lets leave that to the 16 to 21 crowd. No need to burn rubber like a teen.... its obviously a 500hp car, yup you can spin the tires... but hey some folks like/need the attention, sort of like telling all your friends you just had sex! LOL To each his own... I drive mine for pleasure not to buy tires every six months... PS - I like the way you search me out though :hysterical::slapfight:

I agree with you!

This car is marketed as a performance car NOT a luxury Lincoln town car and it should behave as such FROM the factory and if the people who buy it want it to behave like a luxury car then they should be the ones changing out parts. I want to have a little safe and legal fun with this bad boy. I want to light the on ramps on fire. I want to be able to take off from a stop light once in a while and grab the hole shot. I dont want to sit at the stop light bouncing around ruinning my rear end or spinning the tires attracting cops while a ford escort takes the hole shot from me and I dont think I should have to mod it to do so. I dont know... in my opinion it just isn't right and I thought I could look for a logical reason here to explain this short comming to me.

you never light the tires up? really? wow?

to each his own... but i guess that means the remaining 99.7% of shelby owners are "teens"... because we do.

I didn't buy a Shelby to drive it like a Volvo. Lighting the tires up is fun! nothing to do with people watching... I most often light them up in empty parking lots when no one is around.

some time.... when no one is looking.... give it a try! we won't tell! :burnout:

you might get hooked..... :spiteful:

Sorry Guys,

A nearly 50,000 dollar car should not wheel hop period! And even though I will be modifying my 08 gt 500 I should be doing it improve an already awesome suspension system not fixing wheel hop. Yall can talk about nvh and stuff like that, but guess what my car does not ride smooth or quiet enough to wheel hop. I would much rather it be stiffer and no wheel hop. I wonder if the zo6 wheel hops or if the new camaro will wheel hop? Either way I love my car and would not trade it for the gm cars.

ps this is my first post here, so here goes

Welcome to the Forum!

No....my 2002 Z06 does not have wheel hop, and if you take the TC off it is a MOFO to get hooked up....I just leave the TC on, and enjoy the ride!

Got a funny feeling I will be doing the Control arm mods on our Vert as a matter of principal.......My 81 Fox Body Capri RS with the old school HO 302 had wicked wheel hop....learned to just drive around it....

The Gt500 Should not wheelhop from the factory.

But it does.

So quit bitching and swap out the upper and lower control Arms. They are CHEAP and easy to replace.

I am bitching, and so should everyone else who bought one. This is mind boggling in my opinion. If its so cheap to replace why didnt ford do it right in the first place??? I love my car and I am going to make the swap, but I want a logical answer, someone has to know out there why ford thought this was acceptable to release.

Its also funny how none of the people who reviewed this car ever mentioned this wheel hop issue such as road and track, car and driver, motorweek, and most of all American haters, Top Gear. I wonder if ford gave them a suspension tuned car to test drive.

+1 I made a promise when I bought the car, that the tire allowance would be the same as the gas allowance. So far so good. 5100 miles on the stock tires and it's time for new ones. And I bought a spare set of wheels and tires from another member for daily driving so that I can keep the racing tires a little longer. Not sure if I ever cared if anyone saw me burn up the tires, I just do it for fun. The most fun is from a 30-40 MPH roll and kicking it sideways. Thanks for that Evo. Sliding around corners is also a blast. Definitely not wanting someone to watch, just good clean fun. This car steers great with the rear wheels! :hysterical:

Lots of cure for the hop out there. I went with the FRPP handling pack for autocross and road course. It eliminates most of the hop and keeps the car on a rail.

Just get the Roush UCA, wheelhop will be gone and NVH will not be affected at all. I did it and would never have a GT500 without one. Nothing like hitting the gas and not having the car jump around like a real horse.

Welcome to the world of screw you from Ford and SAI. Why didn't Shelby build the car with Eibach Springs Corsa Exhaust etc. He was consulting on making it a "SHELBY". To make matters worse the 2007 truly was the 40th anniversary car and they decided to rip our pocketbooks as many times as they could get away with and have you send it down to lost wages to get what should have been done in the first place finished. It's nothing but a smoking mirrors operation with Ford (ADM and sub par parts) and the Shelby MONEY MACHINE. I'm through with this hype machine. And by the way Shelby now is a blonde from Mattel.

"ATTENTION EVERYBODY, CARROLL SHELBY IS A BLONDE!" Good God man why are all your posts so bitter? Shelby Auto's are not in business to create conspiracies and controversy IMO but they ARE in business to BE in business, have you ever actually spoken to anyone at SAI? My experiences are that they are professional, helpful, and courteous and really want to provide a great hot rod for those wanting one. I view this site as being for those that want to learn and share info about the cars we all love and have fun doing it. Please don't attempt to bring us all down with such negativity, I realize this is a public forum but if you really feel the way you do talk to those at SAI, they'll listen......really.

I know that freedom of speach is a gaurantee but, I dont think this should go unchallenged. If you dont like the car or the company, you have choices. Go elswhere! And no, Im not trying to be confrontational so please, dont take it that way. Your critisism of Ford and SAI is well within bounds, your last comment is personal and, In my opinion, not called for. SAI and Ford are in buisness to make money. They do that by offering a product people will buy. You dont like the car, sell it or upgrade it, whatever. But, your critsism is not constructive and, serves no purpose other than to make youself feel better.

If I felt that way, I would sell my Shelby. Or I wouldn't have purchased it in the first place.

:yup: I just thank God they had the pair to build it in the first place and offer it at a pretty reasonable price compared to anything else on the market with this kind of power and potential. :burnout:

Well, I mean how good of a value is it really?

I mean the Terminator could be bought brand new for $30k, this car is more than $10k over that new.

Also, Ford gave us a great platform, $45k for a great platform is alot when you compare it to say a new LS3 Vette which has equal performance and even better in stock form with great potential but yet is sold as a complete package meaning you don't have to replace the entire suspension and so on haha

Lets get real here, we bought the GT500 because we are die hard Ford guys, it is not a performance bargain at all IMO

Although there is a ton of potential in the GT500 but an SS/KR/40th are not cheap by any means and I would much rather have a new z06 or 08 viper if performance was all I cared about, but it is not :D

Couple of comments........the Mustang GT remains the best "bang for the buck" in the domestic line up. It is limited to how far you can go with mods before the GT 500 is a better option. Second...what wheel hop? Before you bad mouth the car spend some time on an auto cross event or an open track. Going fast at either place has nothing to do with spinning tires or sliding sideways! Learn the car and learn how to drive it! When done correctly there are no problems! Yup, do plan on lowering and CAI + tune just to make it a little better for me.

"Cheep Fix" I purchased a set of standard spring rate Eibach springs that are a little shorter and will lower the back and make the car level like it should be.The ride is very close to stock. The bonus was that it took away most of the wheel hop to the point that I feel I can wait for new control arms. I took out the lower rubber isolaters for the springs and was able to get a little more drop out of it without any noise transfer. You might here a little creek over speed bumps but nothing that will bother you. I believe it lowered the car close to 3/4" the shop that did it for me only charged me 1/2 hour labour as it is a very simple job.The best part is the cost was only $58.03 each in Canada. (The part # is 12002500185) I did not want to lower the front of the car as we have a lot of speed bumps and was looking for stock look. I got the info on these springs from this site and I can say I am very happy with them. I hope this helps some of you! JJ08

I agree that it took guts for Ford to bring the GT500 out when it did. A real Bold Move. I do wish they would have handled the sales better though.
