Sorry to say, gents, that I am losing interest here and debating cancellation of my room reservations. The next few days and replies here will tell.

Do we have a head count for a road trip/caravan from the Chicagoland area?

A meet/departure location and time?

I'm looking forward to arriving at the Baymont in the mid-afternoon of Friday, 18 April, and be refreshed for the evening's events.

The plans for Saturday's caravan from the Baymont to Hermann, MO. are wide open, I haven't a clue what to expect. But, attending the Saturday events so far from the Baymont isn't inviting to me. This alone could cause me to cancel, a lot of my enthusiam hangs on meeting other Chicagoland Shelby owners.

Doesn't seem to be anything planned for Sunday, other than the ride home.

So...Post up? I need your feedback.

Don't run off on us. If you come to Hermann, you will have fun, I gurantee it........

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I'm also planing on arriving at the Baymont in the mid-afternoon of Friday, 18 April, and be refreshed for the evening's events.

There are quite a few of us staying at the Baymont and it is my understanding that LSR will meet us at the Baymont early Saturday morning and lead the caravan to Hermann.

As for Sunday, I'm up early, eating breakfast and on the road home, 6-1/2 hour ride for me.

Contact Kyle, (Cobra Boy) I'm sure he can answer all your questions.

Keep in mind that nobody involved here is a professional car show planner so there may be a glitch or two but I'm confident it will all work out. This show is being put together by a few Shelby enthusiast that are donating their time and in my opinion are doing a GREAT job.

Don't get discouraged this show is going to be a blast and were all going to make a lot of new friends.

Hey Jeff-I think from the thread about Kyle having to sell his GT500, we have concluded ShelbyDude's dealership is in Bloomington. Maybe we could find out where and use it as a meet up spot? Meet for lunch somewhere? I'm open to suggestions and have wiped my schedule clean for Friday, so I can leave at any time to meet up. Sbornitz & I had talked about meeting up in Rockford and at one time Mr Hugger had mentioned meeting up along 39 (where's the easiest place for you to hit it Steve-Rochelle?). I'm like you in that I figured we'd need to wait until a little closer to plan in earnest, but I'll post on here every day until then if it'll help us sway Lulu into joining us.

Shelbydude's dealership is in Bloomington....pm him and he'll be happy to assist with directions....

Hello??? Lulu??? You wanted activity on the board then disappeared! What's going on-you still joining us?

Mr Hugger- I think there is an Amoco station on the south end of Rochelle 1/4 mile north right off 88 with a decent size lot to meet up at, other wise there is a huge Petro truck stop just north of 88 off 39. I'm going through there en route to my parents for Easter/family Christmas Friday nite. I'll check it out and know more when I get back Monday. Will Pm you w/ my cell # also.Larry

Another scoop?? he must b going for the 69-70 Shelby look!

Everyone is sooooooo funny.

No, I got the #3 which is the riveted scoop and it's perfect other than a dip that is developing in the front. This was a bad batch I guess so SAI is sending another and I hope to have it on by then but we'll see.

At the same time the hood stripes are being replaced.

It does appear Lulu has bailed. Steve

Steve, unfortunately I think you may be right. I tried to send him a PM to check on his status and he has his personal messenger feature turned off, so you can't send him a message that way either. Too bad-was looking forward to meeting him.

Checked out Rochelle on the way past, there is a small Shell station just off the south end of Rochelle, about 2 miles past 39. Otherwise there is a huge Petro station/truck stop just north of 88 about a mile on 39 that has a much larger parking area. Either one could work and we can plan off of that. Talk to you soon. larry

That's strange, I wonder why he would fall off the face of the earth like that. :( That's a bummer he was a good guy and a good resource. Plus having a retired cop driving with us may have come in handy! ;)

Ok....let's start planning locations!

If everyone can post here the major HWY they will be in and from where I will make up a list and map. Then we can match people to locations and provide for building the caravan as we move south.

Sounds good. I will be driving 90 west to 39 South. Larry the petro stop sounds good. What exit is it? Steve

Where do you hit 39 at Steve? Do you have to come all the way to Rockford to hit it?

I looked into Rochelle-the Petro stop is the Hwy 38 exit, it's on the west side of 39 and quite visible from the highway.

I think we need to get some times set as far as when everyone wants to meet up along the way/get to O'fallon, etc. I know Sbornitz has about 3 hrs worth of drive time to get to the Rockford area(what time were you thinking about leaving that day?). Did we want to try to hook up at Shelbydude's dealership in Bloomington around lunch time to meet the Chicago guys? What is everyone else thinking? The planned meet up for Friday night is 6pm in the Baymont parking lot-I'm sure we would all like a little time to check in, etc before then. I'm open for whatever everyone else is thinking, so let's maybe get something going as far as a more concrete plan goes.

It may be April Fool's Day, but this is no joke. Hope y'all enjoy the day.

LuLu's awake from her winter nap, and looking good. She's quite excited about ShelbyFest.

My reservations at the Baymont are in place, and my ShelbyFest registration is in. I opted for the Dyno, which no one mentioned here. Yeah, 200 bucks for a pull is pricey, but the funds are going to a good cause and that makes it work for me. IMHO, helping a brother Shelby owner with medical bills is a very classy thing to do, and my hat is off to the ShelbyFest organizers for the gesture. So...I'm going. Now it's a matter of who wants to hook up with me for the drive. Here are my plans.

18 April...I'll arrive at the Speedway gas station on the southwest corner of 183rd Street and Harlem Avenue at 1045 AM. This location is 500 yards north of I-80 west on-ramp. Anyone coming across Illinois on I-80, jump off at the Harlem Ave-North exit, and the Speedway is at the next stop light. Those of you coming down the I-294, your merge to I-80 is also east of the Harlem Ave. exit. Unless I get a call that you are running late, I will leave the Speedway at 1100 AM sharp.

I'll drive west on I-80 to the I-355 merge. This should take 10-12 minutes. There is no rest stop in the area, so, I'll just pull to the shoulder after the I-355 merge. I'll wait for 10 minutes, then move on.

The next stop is just down the road on I-55 after the merge with I-80. This is exit 248 on I-55 south. Stay to your right on the exit ramp and you will see a McDonald's and a BP station, but you cannot cross the median. 1/2 of a block west of the exit ramp is an access road. Turn left and follow the road around the back of McDonald's/BP and you will see the entrance ramp. I'll take a stort break here, and move on in 20 min. or so. Again, if you are running late, call me and I'll wait. After that, it's southbound and down on I-55, and rest stops as needed, see y'all at the Baymont.

I can be reached 24/7 at 312.401.1396. There is voice mail, please leave a call back number. Anyone want to chat about my plans, just give me a shout. My e-mail is SergntMac@AOL.com.

On the 18th, I'll have my GMRS personal radio set to channel 5, no tones, and I'll have three spares with me if anyone needs one for the cruise.

That's about all I have here, and I'm open to suggestions. Looking forward to meeting y'all and putting some faces with the screen names.

Be safe.

WELCOME BACK!! We had all thought you'd bailed on us for good. Glad you decided to make the trip. What time do you think this puts you in Bloomington area? Those of us traveling down 39 will try to connect with you there.

Gentlemen, I would like to suggest you all stop in Lincoln, IL for gas. It is 130 miles from the gas station there to O'Fallon. The gas is cheaper there than anywhere along I-55, and that includes a Shell station with 93 octane. While I understand you might not need to fill up, you will arive with half a tank and can fill up again in MO where gas is considerably cheaper. Most of the stations in O'Fallon now have only 92 octane. I might add that the gas nozzles in MO have a rubber bellows on them to prevent loss during overflow and are a little different than you might be used to.

Next question. Is there a planned route to St. Charles on Friday night? Again, my suggestions. We take I-64 West to I-255 North to Poag Road, just North of I-270. Take Poag Road to IL-3 North to Alton. Cross over bridge on MO-367 to I-270. A little more scenic, a little less traffic, all roads are good. The stretch of I-255 North of I-270 is straight and flat with little or no LEO, makes for a great place to open er up.

Frank

PS They have been shooting a lot of Lidar around Springfield. Hope you all Escorts or Valentines.

Sorry about that, but retirement has kept me very busy catching up on all the stuff I couldn't do while working. I'm tempted to go back to work just to get some rest!

Can't estimate my arrival in Bloomington without nailing down an exit number for your meet. I know the area is a bit of a rat's nest with three major Interstates all merging together for a while, so, try to give me a meet location exit number and I'll try to guess-timate travel time.

I'm looking forward to meeting up with you all but doubt I'll be able to stay with you! LOL.... I usually only do a few miles over the limit and relax let people look the car over as they pass. Such fun to watch the goings on in the rear view mirror and then how they slow when they get along side and keep looking as they pass. :happy feet:

Any way I'm not looking to break the land speed record in other words.

Just an FYI!

Looking at the map, exit 167 will require the I-39 and I-72 drivers to back track out of their way. However, exit 154 is southwest of the business district on I-55 and everyone should be passing by this exit. Exit 154 looks ideal to me, what do y'all think?

Did you address a cc to Mr Hugger?? :hysterical::hysterical:

I'm not either, I just want to be down there in time to check in, possibly freshen up, chat a little before we hop back in for the cruise to St Charles at 6. Will leaving Chicago @ 11 get us there in time or do we need to leave a little earlier?

Were we going to try to meet at Shelbydude's dealership in Bloomington?

forgot to add-a row of Shelby's heading down the highway will probably garner enough attention slightly over the limit, especially from the troopers, let alone if we were on a cannonball run. I usually run about 5-6 over on the interstate

I've been on many road trips with auto clubs, and speeding isn't recommended. Just keeping the pace of the traffic around you can be a chore, because that's usually 10 over anyway.

The difficult thing to measure here is overall travel time. Everyone needs to look at their own program and decide when to launch. For me, 1100 AM from the Speedway allows plenty of travel time, I estimate arrival in O'Fallon between 4 and 5 PM. Others traveling greater distances will prolly need to start out earlier.

Still no feedback from anyone who may meet with me at the points I selected, so, see y'all at Exit 154 between 1230 and 1 PM?
