GT/SC Cars - Whipple vs. Paxton

I heard that Ford is working on a strut tower brace that will clear the Whipple S/C under a stock hood. Perhaps the one that comes with the new Bullitt was the one they meant?

My goals were to equal or exceed GT500 numbers (500 hp, 480 ft lb at crank) and the SGT/FRR/Whipple set up ( 500 hp and 470 ft lbs at crank). As we all know our cars are about 400 lbs lighter than the GT500, I figured that by hitting the above hp/trq numbers ( coupled with less weight ) the car would produce the performance I wanted. My reasons also included retaining the Shelby/Paxton provenance & keeping the tower strut in place ( have cake & eat it too).

 

and once I get more rubber on the backend , I am fairley confident sacaljafo's car and mine would thrash a stock 500 in the 1/4 mile...I've driven a 500 and my sgt with more rwhp/trq and 400+ lbs LESS weight feels significantly stronger.....tires start smokin (again) at middle-top end of second gear

Also, the screw type super charger on the GT500 is making power right away but my Paxton has to get wound up. Then again it is a few pounds lighter.

 

On a road course, a supercharged Shelby GT should beat a GT500 handily. On a 1/4 mile I don't know. I think it Louie that has 11 second times in his supercharged Shelby GT. How does that match up to a GT500?

Louie is runnin high 11.4s.... stock GT 500 numbers Ive seen are 12.5 to 12.9. 400 lbs makes a huge difference in accelaration..less on top end.

 

In fairness , I believe louie is runnin dot street slicks but 1-1.5 seconds is a decisive difference !!

Here's a list of the fastest 1/4 mile times from Stangnet. Also look closely at some of these cars mods, some have upgraded blowers, some are running NOS and lots are running drag radials. Louie's time is more than respectable. I might add, this boy can drive. Good job Louie.

Here is the Whipple dyno from a SGT as is from SAI. I had it posted in other topics but thought I'd add it here too since you're asking. Numbers came in at 464 RWHP and 460 torque which is 533 HP at the engine (according to Tasca).

Some GT500's are getting in the 300's on HP and torque. Some are getting over 500 HP and near that for torque. There are a lot of factors which dictate the differences as discussed there. As mentioned, keep in mind the weight too.

 

No matter what you do, either S/C will be a good choice. It boils down to what's best for you.
