ZepDad
Sadly my SGT came from the dealer showroom floor minus the Interior Upgrade Package. I've swapped instrument clusters to gain My Color, Info Center and extra gauges. Now I'm looking at steering wheels. The IUP wheel can be obtained off ebay for ~$175. Leather wrapped with the aluminum spokes. I'd like to upgrade but am not sure this is a do-it-yourself project. I'm concerned about the airbag mostly. Anyone done this swap? I located service manual instructions at http://www.2005stang.com/viewtopic.php?t=1087 but I remain hesitant. By the way there are many good service docs listed. I'll post the link under separate search-friendly topic. Thanks
Webba
take a look at the threads from the last 2 weeks. SGT in BC...I think that is his nick...had hid wheel swapped out for the wooden one. I would think the process is the same. He may be a good person to contact for details.

I also don't miss the My Color since I probably wouldn't use it (I hardly ever use my Shaker 500 with the 6 CD player). But I would like a new steering wheel. I'm looking at the Mustang leather or the Ford Racing (GT500 wheel with black stiching). I also am leery of the air bag handling. Looks like lots to got wrong with all the warning messages in the work instructions. I might just pay to have it done. My dealer quoted $92 to install, which might be worth the peace of mind. BTW, Roush buys all their Mustangs with the base interior (no UIP) and they only change the steering wheel to the leather version with the aluminum trim. Look at all the pics on ebay. They know what looks good. It looks better with the black dash and black cooling air vents, IMO. The added gauges are really just for show and aren't really gauges and we don't need no pansy "My Color" either!
ZepDad
Interesting woodgrain look. 45 minutes labor doesn't sound bad, even at their rates. Probably the safest route to go.
ZepDad
Blueshawk: I actually like the pansy My Color! And it gives my wife something to control (besides me that is!) I agree the extra gauges aren't much. Something is better than nothing, I suppose. $95 install isn't bad. I'll probably spring for the regular leather wheel. The GT500 wheel seems a bit pricey at around $400.

ShelbyGT/SC
I'm looking at the Mustang leather or the Ford Racing (GT500 wheel with black stiching). Blueshawk, can you post a link to the GT500 steering wheel with the black stitching? I wanted the GT500 wheel months ago but changed my mind because of the red stitching. I really like how the leather wraps all around and it has the thumb bump. Can you PM me the link too?

The FRPP site has the part number (M-3601-C) http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/categ...eering%20Wheels Blue Oval Industries has a pic also with the shifter boot but ignore the boot). I don't need another boot and the one shown doesn't look any different than the stock boot. I'm in VA so I'd have to pay shipping and taxes. http://www.blueovalindustries.com/products.php?pid=99013127 I called my FRPP parts place and they can get one for $409. If I buy from here I don't have to pay shipping. It's probably a wash compared to Blue Oval Ind. It is pricey but I'm still considering it. ZepDad
I'm probably opting for a standard IUP wheel. I'm looking mainly at ebay. One question: Are all the wheels the same for 2005 thru 2007? I'm getting mixed messages. Some info is saying that a 2005 wheel will not fit a 2007. Thanks. blueshawk
I'm doing it Blues, Bought from Blue Oval and being sent to Cali to have it Carbon Fibered. Also love the red stiching and have contracted to have custom headrest embroidery and a custom leather console lid cover with matching red custom embroidery to match the headrests. It will be unique and very cool. It will also match the logo's on the Carroll Shelby line of custom wheel center caps. Does anyone know if the shift boot that comes with this as a set is different than the stock boot? It must be or why would they include it? But how is it different? I just ordered my Steering wheel with shift boot (M-3601-C) from my FRPP dealer for $395. I'm going to install it myself 'cause those who have done it say it is very straightforward. I'll install them this weekend. I just wanted to say they look great. The surprise was the shift boot. It's real leather and not the fake stuff that comes with the car. Very nice! I recommend this upgrade because the SGT should have had this wheel and boot to start with. It's pricey but this is one mod where you'll get immediate and continuous gratification because you'll always have one hand on the wheel and one hand on the shifter (near the boot). I probably would buy an extra lid from them and have them put the cover on it. Best price I've seen on the lid is $77 plus shipping. So it probably easier to just get it all from them. Well I decided to take the day off and I installed the FRPP steering wheel and the shift boot, which are the the same as the GT500 but with "black" stitching. The procedure went well. Looks AWESOME! Plus the feel of rich Corinthian leather (using Ricardo Montalban's accent)

blueshawk
can you please post pictures. I don' t have a very good camera. But if you look at the top wheel in ROSSGT's post, it is the same except the carbon fiber sections are leather and the stitching is black.

ddwyer
So the million dollar question. IUP Steering Wheel, or GT500 Wheel? I was also minus the IUP, and hate the stock steering wheel. I'm having a hard time deciding which wheel to get. I sat in my brother-in-law's car and he has the IUP so I know what that wheel feels like. But I've been reading that the GT500 wheel is well worth the cost. Any opinions (stupid question I know)?
