Today I stopped by the paint and body shop to check on the progress of the Shelby hood. I am happy to say that the hood is looking really good. Custom Painted Vehicles, (CPV) located between Milwaukee and Racine Wisconsin has really put some work into this hood. There was a quite a bit of prep work needed to get some flaws out of the fiberglass hood. Upon getting the hood delivered frieght a few weeks ago I was able to see air bubbles or pockets of voids manufactured in the top of the hood near the upper left and right sides of the trim line that runs down to the center of the hood. Then there were smaller holes that were about the size of pin heads located along the outer edge as well as various parts of the hood. CPV has told me they invested over 8 hours and there is still another couple more before it goes to paint. I was able to pick their brains and ask them from a scale from 5-10, 10 being worst. How does this hood compare to other fiberglass hoods they worked on. And the answer was about a 6 1/2 to 7. One item was pointed out to me was that the front most top portion of the hood had a slight depression or a concave in the center. Also the front edge that runs along the tip of the hood was thinner in on the left compared to the right forward edge. All these discreptencies were fixed by a little TLC and sanding, body filler, and mores sanding. So no surprises here, I knew there was going to be some work to the hood and it's important that this portion of my project is done right. In the next weeks ahead I will post some more pics. For now here is a few of the hood in the 2 phase of the prep work. -FB

Thanks for the compliment. I just hope that my costs stay somewhat reasonable. But to be realistic I know that CPV is a top notch paint and body shop. Atfer dropping around $850.00 for the hood I hope to keep within budget. Some people I speak with who are following my project thought for the amount of money I paid for the hood the prep work should of been minimal. I try to defend the Shelby name and their workmanship from my Roush and Saleen friends (opponents) who think $750.00 plus shipping for a hood that will need a few hours of more prep work could of been fabricated from Shelby a little bit better. Hey, Im passionate about my Shelby project and I will hope that when the front fascia arrives it will require little less prep work. Otherwise I will have to get a job as a male stripper at a all you can eat joint to make some extra cash. -FB

Flying Badger. I have my hood over in Tampa and it is getting prepped for paint. I too had experienced the same as you with the hood. However Mine is at an Authorized Shelby dealer so they are taking very good care of me and not charging for the additional required prep since my hood and fascia is the first one they are installing and a learning experience for them as it is for all of us. They want it perfect. What they learn from mine will result in faster turn around times for the next customer and so on. I call this growing pains and it is expected for a brand new production Piece. The fascia is very well made and is allot healthier and sturdier than OEM fascias and makes OEM Fascias like they were made by rubbermaid, The Front Fascia needs little prep. It only needs to be test fit, holes drilled, removed, and skim coated in with body filler sanded primed and it is basically ready for paint. NOTE tell your body guy that the bumper foam needs to be shaved a bit for a nice tight fit. Good luck. HINT. Jason from Hillbank knows allot about the install process and if you run into a snag give him a call. Make sure you download the grill installation instructions off this forum. Good luck I will post pics Tuesday when I get mine back as a full fledged CS6.

Well, with any fiberglass hood there will always be lots of prep work. Saleen charges $850 to paint and install a new hood, so id say the 6-800 range is realistic and there hood retails for $899. So id say its still a bargain for a real Shelby part.

No arguement here! I just know in the end that it will look awesome and that I will be proud of the outcome even if I have to shake my moneymaker in a couple of lonley businessmens' faces to pay for it.

Jason is right. My hood has been in my garage for a couple months now and it also needs a bit of work but after the car show i was at this past Sunday I found the body shop I want to do the work. The guy next to me had a Steeda crowl race hood and it looked as good as a stock hood. He also told me when he got the hood from Steeda it was in sad shape needing alot of TLC. This is normal for most aftermarket hoods.

Nice teaser but can we get more info on this? LI?

Jim may come to Long Islang to visit some family nothing solid yet. We were talking about meeting up and taking some pics. It wouldn't be a bad Idea to have an annual meet in the summer though. There is Mustang Week 2007 in South Carolina in July, its a state in between I'm going with my local mustang club.

Anthony, I am still planning on it. My wife wants to take our dogs with us instead of boarding them. It would be a cold day in hell before I pack my Lab Retrievers x 2 in the back of my stang so I am looking into borrowing a truck and a flatbed trailer from work for the trip. Plan is flatbed the stang to NY. This way I can go see my friends and family with the stang and my wife will have something to drive when I am out showing off the stang. Excuse me I meant CS6. If for some reason I do not make it on this trip with the mustang then In January or February I might be there on my own. For all those on the east coast I will post the dates of my trip and the intended route. SO if you are near my route and would like to see the CS6 in person then let me know and I will make plans to stop in to show you the car. If I do take the car to NY for the Holidays I would not have time to stop in unless you were on LI like Anthony.

Talk to you soon.

Anthony as it turns out is in the same Air National Guard Unit I was in before I went Active Army to fly helicopters.

I have my calendar marked for JULY 2007 to be at that Mustang week 2007 in South Carolina so Anthony let me know for sure when your club starts talking about Hotel reservations, and count me in. I would even join the Mustang club you are in for the event and park next to your car.

A man that I have purchased parts from in the past is an authorized Shelby dealer. I was asking him about him building me a CS6, I asked him about the dash plaque. He told me there will be no dash plaques unless the car is purchased from Shelby. I have been reading on here that the plaque is included with the stage 3 kit. What is the deal relating to the plaque? But he may have been talking about a Shelby serial #.

"Heres the stages....briefly stated.

Stage I, Appearance Package. This includes everything that is of an appearance nature. This level is elligible to get the stripes (non-supercharged) and a letter from Shelby Performance and elliageable for the registry.

Stage II, Appearance, Suspension and Braking. This package includes the appearance and all the suspension and braking components.

Stage III "Complete Kit", this is the whole deal. At this level you have the entire kit. The performance parts ie: the supercharger and other performance parts are included at this level. There are some exclusive items you get at this level including striping that says "Supercharged", a dash plaque and a Shelby gas cap.

You may build in steps. ALL PURCHASES MUST THROUGH AND AUTHORIZED SHELBY PERFORMANCE PARTS DEALER, NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.

I will further detail the registry rules, regulations, and application process in the next two weeks. Hope this helps." - Jason C.

The dash plaque is not the same one as on the Shelby GT/GT-H or Anniversary GT500. It states something to the effect of Shelby enthusiast built vehicle. I have not seen one so I don't know the exact wording. There is no engine plaque which is also found on the GT/GT-H vehicles. The plaque only comes with a stage-3 vehicle, but the car does not have to be built at once but can be done in steps. The plaque and gas cap come after the stage-3 is completed and installed. The parts can be purchased through an authorized dealer, Shelby or Hillbank. At least this is how I understand things.

I love that facsia, .Hey does Shelby sell the facsia thats on the cobras, the one with the pillars at an angle?Like this

That is the ford shelby gt500 facsia.

On the dash plate and such. There seems to me much confusion. This CS6/CS8 kit is an authorized shelby part. or kit, we make them in las vegas and send them to dealers. The complete kit comes with a letter from Carroll stating it's authenticity. This car does not have a dash plate, it does not have an engine plate and it does not go into the SAAC registry. I believe that Jason from Hilbank has started his own registry for the CS6.

That said, its a beautiful kit and the cars should be cherished for what they are, beautiful cars. The only reason these cars are not included is that only cars built at shelby have dash and engine plates. The gt500 dont have the dash and engine plate.

I know its confusing, but the bottom line is that you own a great Mustang, and you have bought Parts for it made by the legend. This kit and the car can be proudly displayed as a Shelby. I would think that's better then an engine plate :)

AMY. I have mentioned this before and nobody seems to know what I am talking about. I am wondering where is my letter from Caroll stating the parts authenticity. When you purchase a $34.00 Shelby Die cast car it comes with a certificate of authenticity. Why are the parts we are laying out BIG money for are not coming with certificates of authenticity? 1 certificate for each part. Collect all the certificates from each part you ordered . send them to shelby and get One CS6 Complete Stage Three Certificate of authenticity letter from Caroll. Period . That is what we are all looking for. Someday somebody will clone shelbys parts and without a way of us true Shelby part owners there will be no way to tell a knock off from a true shelby part without a certifiacte. What about an official invoice with a list of the authentic shelby parts ordered and the Shelby letterhead at the top. I have nothing. But a complete stage one and no documentation to prove that I even have one part. Any insight?
