ItalianStallion
Seasons Greetings folks !! I purchased an export brace for my 1968 Mustang coupe as well as new shock tower caps. I was having trouble with the install because the circular openings in the brace itself are not a large enough diameter to fit over the shock caps. The bolt holes line up exactly, which was a relief due to a large number of these cars having shock towers that sag inward. My car does not, so the holes on the brace line up perfeclty with the shcok cap hardware. Its as if the shock caps are too bulky to fit through the export brace hole. Both the stock shock tower caps as well as the aftermarket caps will not fit though the export brace. Does the export brace install first and then the shock caps go on top of that ? Or is it the other way around ? Any help out there would be appreciated on the correct way to do this. Thanks, ItalianStallion
d_ford
It takes a bit of wiggling but the export brace goes on first, you may have to lift the back of it up so it slips over the shocks, try doing one side at a time. Then the caps go on top. They are harder usually to get over the shocks than the export brace but if you play with them a bit they'll go. Make sure your suspension is loaded so the shafts of the shocks stick up above the shock towers enough to get the brace and caps over them. Seasons Greetings folks !! drlovegun
Remove the shock attachment bolts and let the shocks rise. Remove the shock tower caps Install the Export brace over the shock cap bolts. Install the shock caps over the export brace and shock cap bolts. Install shock cap nuts onto shock cap bolts. Push down the shocks. Install the shock attachment bolts. 10 minutes.

So, in other words, from your description, if I'm understanding correctly.... The export brace fits directly in the location the shock caps were resting on(inner fender apron) But the export brace goes on first now(over the cap studs) and the shock tower caps rest directly on top of the export brace ? Is that what you are saying ? ItalianStallion
