How long would it take if I ordered a GT500 this month?????????????

Recommended Posts

As the questions states, if I ordered a GT500 this month, what do you think the date would be it would get to the dealer. I am getting a new toy this spring, probably end of April, and do not want to order to late. I have not even started e-mailing dealers to see where I can order for MSRP so it will be at least a couple weeks before I can even place an order. I would think with the Challenger out and being winter MSRP should not be that difficult to get if I reach out to enough dealers. Let me know your opinions, as of today this is my first choice for my new toy this spring. :happy feet: :happy feet:

Thank you,

Bill

Bill,

I ordered October 22, and I expect mine to come in around xmas, so figure 2 months if you are REALLY lucky. I wouldn 't count on getting MSRP after I AM LEGEND hits the theatres next week, but that is a gamble you have to consider for yourself. Good luck and good choice! I think you can call mine love before first sight!! heheheh

As far as how long it takes will all depend on when that particular dealer has allocation to order one. If their allocation is within the next few weeks, then a couple of months. If their allocation doesn't come up until April, May or June, then figure at least two months after that.

The next problem will be finding a dealer that will order one for MSRP. The MSRP deals that are being found are on cars that are already sitting at the dealer.

The next problem will be finding one by just emailing dealers. You need to at least CALL them. Better if you just show up and show you are a serious buyer ready to buy NOW!

I get a TON of emails from people inquiring about a GT500. over 99% are just bogus inquiries. I actually stopped responding to them, other than a quick follow up that if they are a serious buyer then can come in to discuss it. If they don't want to come in then they are obviously not serious enough. I suspect a lot of dealers pretty much do the same at this point after dealing with thousands of email inquiries on this car since it came out. The only ones that seem to respond are the ones quoting $10K - $20K over MSRP.

Also, the longer you wait to try and be able to order one, the harder it will get. Most dealers are getting one and most will have already had to place their order. When the allocation comes up the dealer has to order it at that time. So as you get later into the year any dealers that may still be able to order one will be the few dealers that are getting more than one and most of those dealers are the ones getting the bigger mark-ups on these.

If I were you I would start searching now and searching hard. If you find one it probably won't be until spring when you get it. They will be shut down over the holiday. So if you found a dealer that could order one next week, you are probably looking at the end of Feb by the time it comes in.

I ordered mine a little over a week ago. I got my dealer's last allocation. I believe it's up to the Zone Manager to decide when the order gets pulled for production sequencing. I'm guessing I will finally see mine around March. Who knows? Currently it's on material hold. The wait just gives me more time to think about all the other goodies I'm going to buy in the meantime. I've already got some clothing, diecasts, etc.

The zone manager has nothing to do with it as far as when the order gets pulled. That comes from the region.

I thought the zone was the region?

No, there are 17 regions. Within each region there are x number of zones. We have 15 dealerships within our zone. We have 280 dealers within the region. We have 12 zones in our region.

We have Regional Manager, Zone General Managers, Zone Managers, Market Rep Managers, Marketing Manager, Marketing Specialist, Marketing Analyst, General Zone Manager Specialist, General Zone Analyst, Commercial Truck Business Manager, Fleet National Account Manager, Dealer Development Operations Manager.

Yeah, and that is just in one region. Multiply by 17 regions, then add all the big brass and mangement in Detroit and other areas, = big bucks on the cost of cars!

awhile back i was trying to get an EXTRA allocation. i got about half way thru SDs list and just gave up. the allocations come from WAY UP and i just lost the drive to talk to everyone at FORD.

And we wonder why the big three are losing money.... :stirpot:

Interesting, I guess I may have to change the direction I was going to take. I may just wait until April and buy one off a dealers lot, that may be easier. That would give me a chance to see the Challenger as well. You all are going to think I am nuts, but I am down to 4 choices for my next toy. Challenger, Mustang Shelby GT (I love the 2008 Blue, plus I can have Shelby add a Supercharger) or GT500 or Roush (Over-priced), a used Porsche 911(993 or 996 models), or the 2008 Vette (No, I am not from Italy with gold chains). My last 911 was a great car, but expensive to maintain. I am still leaning toward the GT500.

Well you can probably rule out the Challenger, unless you are willing to pay a HUGE ADM to get one.

The Shelby GT will be the one to get the best deal on. You might get a GT500 for MSRP. Especially if Ford announces they will build it for 09 by then.

Thanks Shelby Dude, I have been reading this forum for some time now and you always bring great information to the forum. As far as the 2008 Shelby GT goes, what is your opinion? Order or buy off dealers lot? Again, April is the earliest I am looking at. If I order will it also take a couple months like the GT500?

Thanks

carnut.. if your into the process of ordering, following the build and shipping, and have paitents to wait, ordering a car in the color and with the options you want can be a fun part of the process. If you need instant gratification 9(LIKE ME) then look for dealer with a car on the lot that is exactly or close to what you want. I agree that you won't get an MSRP deal if you order a car, but that may not be a bid deal to get what you want. If you look hard enough, there will be a car out there with the options you want and the dealers will work harder (better pricing) to sell a car on the lot than one thy have to order.

Up my way there is a dealer with 9 GT5OO's on the lot, 7-07, 2-08 (2-verts, 7 coupes). All cars are as new with single didgit milage, no-one gets to drive them unless they purchase. Like other dealers, they have made drastic reductions on their ADM's, you may even be able to get an o7 for MSRP if you approch as a serious buyer (which means make a written offer). I bought my VB 08 from them in late October , it is the color I wanted with all the options I wanted. Did not have to order, did not have to wait. To me this was a good thing.

The biggest problem is whether dealers have any allocation left for the SGT. They are only building approx 2300 for 08. So if you can find a dealer that can still order one it would take longer to get than a GT500. The car has to be shipped to Shelby Autos after it is built. That alone takes a few months to get back once it has been shipped from Ford.

We ordered two at the same time. They were built in Oct. One has been sitting at SAI since Nov 1st. So they have had the car for over month now.

The second one is enroute being shipped to SAI now.

We MIGHT see the first one by the end of this month or might not be here until Jan sometime. I suspect the second one won't get here until the end of Jan or sometime in Feb.

So if you had a GT500 and a SGT being built the same day, the SGT would likely be a couple of months longer before getting it since Ford has to ship it to SAI in Vegas and then it sits there until SAI can get to it and then it has to be shipped from there to the dealer.

What did you end up paying for yours from Bickford if you don't mind saying?

They are one of the largest GT500 dealers in the country as far as selling a lot of them. All those cars they have except maybe one, have all been purchased from other dealers around the country. So I would be surprised if they sell one for MSRP. They have more than that in the car since they paid more than MSRP to get them. A lot of those they have shipping costs in addition to what they paid for them. The only exception being on any they may have bought from a dealer prior to being built where the car could have been drop shipped from Ford.

They were getting $25K over on their GT500's. What are they trying to get now?

They offered us $10K over to buy our 08 allocation a few months ago.

I just checked. They show they have 6 coupes and 2 verts that are 07's. Only one of the coupes is their car and the rest came from other dealers. The vista blue coupe is theirs.

They show 2 coupes that are 08's. One of those is theirs and one came from another dealer.

So they show 10 in stock and only 2 were their cars. The rest they bought from other dealers. I would be very surprised if they let any of them go at MSRP.

Paid $5,080 ADM. They were keen on selling an 07 and would have gone lower on that I am sure, but I realy wanted the 08 so was willing to pay. It took some wrangling. I had set a $50k limit and told myself I would just get up and leave if we could not get that... but as you know, the desire to get the car kept me talking and in the end they got close enough for me.

They have a lot of cars and with winter here inventory building, I think they have decided they need to move some cars.

I think their invintory list on the internet is behind from what I saw on the lot today.

You are right about purchase from other dealers, they told me the average cost over MSRP was $7500 with transport. The perticular car I bought was drop shipped direct, the alotment purchased from a delaer in Florida. Intersting thing today, even though they did not win a KR by lottery, they indicated today they have a play on one somewhere.

Yeah, they were one of the first to post on the dealer forums and were offering $25K over for any KR allocations.

That price has since doubled from other dealers offering $40K, $45K and $50K over for any allocation.

As far as the lottery, that has not happened yet. That all takes place in Jan when Ford will do the lottery for final allocation to be given out.

They might have some 07's sent to SAI to have the SS package put on. A lot of dealers are doing that so they can get more money out of them. Imagine a SS sitting on the lot ready for immediate delivery? That would probably bring some good money.

Right now there is 248 GT500's left showing up that are 07's.

I am sure someone would pay dearly to get on off the lot given the wait may be... what...a year if you signed up tomorrow?

According to SAI and Amy directly, dealers are NOT allowed to SS unsold GT500's at all!!

The only way the could do it, according to Amy's post, is if they bought a USED GT500 and sent it in for the SS package. NO UNSOLD, NEW GT500's can be SS'd AT ALL!! This is a post title package ONLY!!

Check out some of the SS thread posts on this... she is VERY adamant that this WILL NOT CAN NOT and happen.

Just FYI for some that have said you can not get an '08 ordered for you without paying an ADM.

I did it. I ordered a 2008 built like I wanted it with a dealer that I was not on a long standing list for MSRP. I should have my car by late January.

It does and will happen. Not all the time and I was very lucky to find my deal. But if you look long and hard enough it can happen.

That isn't what Amy said before. I specifically asked this question and she said yes, dealers can have cars dropped shipped to SAI and have the SS done.

I know of several dealers that are doing it and one dealer that has had 3 cars sitting at SAI waiting to get the SS.

I asked because some buyers would need to be able to have the cost added to their financing. If they buy the car first then they couldn't finance the SS cost. If they buy it with the SS package they can add all the cost to the loan.

Amy said dealers COULD send cars in to have this done. If they have changed their mind on that I have not seen it.

I thought you were saying that dealers were taking inventory, not sold, and sending it to SAI for the SS pkg. She specifically said that dealers could NOT do that.
