clutch noise?

I have just over 350 miles and for the first time noticed a slight rattling noise from the

clutch or trans when at a stop idling in nutral foot off clutch pedal.

 

Does this sound normal??????????????

Heres what Ford has to say about some of the noises. Sounds Normal.

WHEN SERVICING THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY OR TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY ON A SHELBY GT500, APPLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF MOTORCRAFT PTFE LUBRICANT (PART NUMBER XG8 OR D2AZ-19590-A) TO THE SPLINES OF THE CLUTCH HUB. THE LUBRICANT ON THE CLUTCH HUB SPLINES WILL ENSURE THAT THE CLUTCH WILL NOT BIND ON THE TRANSMISSION INPUT SHAFT, ENSURING PROPER CLUTCH OPERATION.

Noises That May Be Experienced By The Customer That Are Considered Characteristic

1) Roll Over Noise

SOME 2007MY GT500 MUSTANGS WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION MAY EXHIBIT A LIGHT 'GEAR ROLLOVER' NOISE WHILE THE CLUTCH IS ENGAGED AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN NEUTRAL.

GEAR ROLLOVER NOISE IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. IF THE NOISE IS BELIEVED TO BE ABNORMALLY LOUD, PLEASE COMPARE TO A LIKE UNIT BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIR. REFER TO WORKSHOP MANUAL SECTION 308 FOR ADDITIONAL MANUAL TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION.

 

 

2) Gear Rattle

SOME 2007MY GT500 MUSTANGS EQUIPPED WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION MAY EXHIBIT A 'GEAR RATTLE' NOISE FROM THE DRIVELINE DURING 1ST & 2ND GEAR SLOW OR GRADUAL LAUNCH OF THE VEHICLE. THE GEAR RATTLE NOISE IS ONLY PRESENT IN 1ST & 2ND GEARS AND IS CONSIDERED A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC CAUSED BY CONTACT PATTERN. THE GEAR RATTLE NOISE HAS NO EFFECT ON THE PERFORMANCE OR DURABILITY OF THE VEHICLE. RECOMMEND COMPARISON TO A LIKE UNIT. 2007 MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 5.4L- CLUTCH DISC AND PRESSURE PLATE - TORQUE SPECS. THE TORQUE SPECIFICATION IN SECTION 308-01 (CLUTCH DISC AND PRESSURE PLATE 5.4L) AND THE SPECIFICATION SECTION OF THE 2007 MUSTANG WORKSHOP MANUAL FOR THE CLUTCH TO FLYWHEEL BOLTS IS INCORRECT. THE CORRECT TIGHTENING TORQUE FOR THE CLUTCH TO FLYWHEEL BOLTS IS AS FOLLOWS: 1) USING NEW BOLTS, TIGHTEN TO 10 NM (89 IN.LB) IN A STAR PATTERN. 2) THEN TIGHTEN AN ADDITIONAL 90 DEGREES (ONE QUARTER TURN) IN A STAR PATTERN.

Ok all this info is good but what sound do you guys here from your clutch idling in nutral

with foot off the pedal??????????? :waiting:

 

 

this one applies, noise is a bit worse with the AC on

I hear the same thing you do. Mine makes no noise when I push the clutch in. Very noisy at idle in nuetral from day 1.

Its probably me. I should have indicated that the "they" that told me that were the service rep and his manager at the dealership when I asked about the sound and the clunk when going into second gear. :shrug:

What are you talking about ?
