First Ticket

Tikigrill

Recommended Posts

Ok. Had the car a week now and just got what I fear is the first of many tickets. 70 in a 35 is not that impressive.

What hurts is that after he gave me the ticket he told me he loved the car and how his buddy has an older Shelby that's really fast. What a prick, he couldn't give me a bit of break? Of course I was definitely speeding :)

Anybody else gotten one yet in their '13?

70 in a 35 is excessive...30 over is mandatory license suspension in my area!

35 over I think is reckless op in Ohio but I was pulled over by a OSHP before and while he said he could get me for reckless op he only gave me the ticket. Been ticket free for 5-6 years now.

I drive 90+ on the interstate daily. My commute would be 15 minutes longer if I drove the speed limit, I'm not throwing away half an hour of my life every day just to obey a revenue generation scheme.

Tikigrill - 70 in a 35 and you think that it's funny :redcard: ! If you were speeding down my street with kids out we would have a real problem :finger: ! Take it to the track :shift: if you want to speed! Just my $.02 from a NJ Know It All :burnout:

+1. If he hits somebody's kid while doing 70 in a 35 he won't think it is so funny any more. He will have a lot more to worry about than just a license suspension. Why do people think speeding laws are different than any other law?

Rough crowd and no mercy, hopefully it wasn't in a residential or school zone. :drop:

Got one in I-95 interstate a few years ago for what I thought was a 80 in a 70. Only didn't realize it had actually dropped to 55 which made it 25 over not 10. Big difference in price.

Not sure where Tikigrill is from, but I do know that some of those areas in the mid-west and plains states have highways that go from 65 to 45 to 35 in a blink of an eye. Literally the signs are a half mile apart and you can easily miss one or two.

I got a ticket in Coffeeville, Ok on a business trip that I had made to Tulsa and had to drive up to Kansas City. The local sheriff's dept pulled me over for doing 45 in a 35. I never saw the sign that said 35 until the officer ( a woman by the way )took me back about a 1/4 mile at my request and pointed the sign out.

What I enjoy about these cars is the rush one gets getting up to the posted limit. Once to the limit, (unless on a multiple lane interstate) I insure the needle stops climbing. Of course, getting to 35 comes really quick in these cars and there is always the chance of a ticket for "aggressive start ups" which in Minnesota can be just as expensive. Throwing caution to the wind is a dangerous way to live and having been in a car at 14 years old when a child was accidentally hit and killed, is an awful memory I wish I could forget, but in some ways glad I can't. Be safe for yourself and those around you and life is good while it lasts.

Lots of assumptions here that unfairly paint the OP as speeding in a residential area with children potentially involved. Perhaps it might be appropriate to withhold judgment on the basis of assumptions, and not condemn him for something that we don't even know occurred?

I admire the self control of any of us who have kept their cars under the posted speed limit at all times since taking ownership. I have not had that level of willpower...

Should have explained more.

First I agree 70 is excessive but the car gets there quickly. The road is not residential, no construction, no businesses. There was no traffic and no entries or exits until the end of the road. The only person in danger was me.

Tell that to the blind pregnant Nun with the seeing eye dog being escorted across the street by a troop of Brownies..

Also, I am in the Midwest and its tough when these country roads change limits so quickly. This particular road I was speeding on will be built up someday but right now it's only a road and some grass. I guess the real danger would be deer but no kids. I may enjoy pushing this car but I am not stupid. And having young children I completely agree with how reckless it would be to drive that way in their vicinity.

I say if you don't like the way I drive get off the sidewalk! Just kidding. Last ticket I got was 1981 in my hot rod four cylinder mustang. Top speed was 83 MPH. I was doing 83 in a 55 while sucking down a beer on a deserted highway at 1:00 am on a road in northern Michigan on the way to deer hunting. Police asked if I had an open beer and I told them I drank it all before they stopped me. They wrote me up for 5 mph over the limit and told me to be careful if I am going to drive fast. Went right back to 83mph with them hanging about a quarter mile back. Ticket ended up costing me $19. Oh I wish for the good ol' days.

I am not sure which is worse. Speeding while drinking or handling firearms after drinking.

Back in the 60's you had to blow a .15 in Michigan to be drunk. Then it got lowered to .10 and then the insanely low .08 which is drunk for some people and not drunk for others. I guess they want to be really strict like Thailand. They have a zero tolorance law for driving after drinking there. You blow .01 and you are drunk and on your way to jail unless you buy the cop off with a little bribe. The whole system is corrupt as a way of life there but it is so much fun. Lots of Porches and Ferraris running around Bangkok. The guy that invented Red Bull is a Thai. His grandson just ran over a policeman on a motorcycle with his expensive car and killed him and a bribe took place right away and they arrested some poor innocent guy for the crime. The bribe was discovered and a police chief suspended without pay by the top police official for trying to cover it up.

And your point is?? :headscratch:

It sucks to be a policeman in Thailand?

No, just very strict drinking laws in Thailand. Corruption is just a fact of life there. Don't think you would get away with getting stopped for drunk driving in America and saying, " Sorry ossifer. I didn't mean to drive. I forgot I had 10 beers. Here have 3000 Baht ($90) and I will go on my way but I will be very careful."

Yeah, most places call that "excessive speed" which brings the price and penalty way up.

I think you lose your license in CA and CO for that kind of speed difference.

For them beating up on the guy...I took mine up to 100 in a 40 (neener neener neener)!

Flame on,

Neither one is real smart...or responsible.

I can't say I'm completely innocent of the charges. Well, at least not the speeding/drinking one.

I don't want to jinx it, but I've NEVER gotten a speeding ticket! My first hot rodded car was a '55 Chevy in '59 & there have been many since then. I am a very responsible person, but love muscle cars & must be very lucky. This '13GT500 is a real challenge, tho!

Where was this officer hiding on such a desolate road?

I was worried about getting a speeding ticket on my way home from the dealership. It was a two hour drive and I was warned at the dealership about all the speed trap hiding places along the way.I drove home very conservatively and at the limit. I have not gotten a ticket in years. Every time I pulled my GT500 out of the garage, I couldn't help but think that it was just a matter of time before I got one.Sure enough, not two weeks goes by and I and another vehicle got pulled over together for doing 51 in a 40. I was beside myself. What really got me worked up was that I was not even in my GT500, I was in my Navigator driving my son home from soccer practice. I guess I let my guard down thinking I would not get ticketed in my Lincioln.
