Vegas info... any inside deals? Must see attractions, etc...

Recommended Posts

Hi all... I spend most of my time in the SGT section..

First off, where can I stay in Vegas with safe parking for the Shelby, a location that is close to or on the strip, and with rates at or below $100 per night? Yes... that's a lot to ask... is it possible?

Just because I'm a dork, I would like to stop by the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, aka Pawn Stars on History Channel. And I know my brother will want to walk the strip.

Other than the tour at Shelby, how about other car museums in Vegas?

Well, I haven't been to Vegas for probably seven years or so, and in a motorhome... so what are the must see attractions that I should plan on visiting? Any other info/tips would be great!

Also, how about places to eat? Good buffets? Restaurants...?

Thanks in advance!

$100 per night is very doable especially Sunday thru Thursday nights.

There's the Imperial Palace Car Collection. Although not as grand as it once was its still worth a look. Many of the cars are actually for sale.

If you gamble, and do good, a must see would be Roger Sorel at Shelby American. Roger will be glad to assist you in purchasing a GT350.

We drive to Vegas several times a year. I took my SGT one trip. We have the players card from the Flamingo, where we always stay, so we get really good rates at any of their family of hotels. We don't gamble that much but the card still gets us discounts. The Imperial Palace car museum is part of that family anf the card will get you a discount. Last fall they gave us 2 free coupons when we check in but my wife isn't even a car person so I was pushing it to go to Shelby for my 3rd time and the drag races.

I paid the valet $40 up front to watch my car when I checked in with my SGT. I went over to the parking garage a couple of times and my car was always parked right next to the valet booth, in their sight. I understand the Wynn has an enclosed cage for exotic cars.

We like the Flamingo because it is centrally located on the Strip. Driving is not worth it so you're better off walking the Strip or taking The Duece, city bus for $3 a trip or $7 for 24 hrs. The mono rail is expensive and really doesn't go where you want to go. Look up the Strip map on the web to see what casinos are where. I would caution you about the Stratosphere or Circus Circus as they are not within walking distance of the main attractions and their neightborhoods aren't the best.

Treasure Isalnd has the Siren's show out front several times a night, the volcano at the Mirage, the Bellagio fountain and indoor Atrium are all free and really neat. The Coke and M&M places are also free. The Carnival Bar outside of Harrah's has the ulitimate bartenders who juggle the glasses, bottles, etc. There is no cover in the early evening and they really put on a show. They even tossed arounf my Bud Light aluminum bottle and it wasn't foamy when he opened it. The Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is about $15 and well worth it.

We have seen several of the "V" variety shows at Planet Hollywood for about $30 using the Half Price Ticket outlets. Just be sure to be in the ticket line before 11AM. We paid the regular fare to see the Wax Museum and Blue Man Group at the Venetian, and several of the Cirque De Solei shows. All were good.

Maragaritaville has good food and the bikini girl who slides in to a 9' margarita every hour after 6 PM. We haven't found a cheap buffet on the Strip any more. They're all good, priced in the mid $20 range. There are cheaper ones advertised but you have to take a cab or drive off of the Strip.

Remember the free Shelby tour is M-F at 10:30 AM. Good luck getting out of the gift shop without maxing out your cards!
