Christmas is a contraction of Christ's Mass, a feast day celebrating Christ's birth. Feast days are also known as Holy Days which has been shortened to "holiday". In my opinion "Happy Holidays" has come around not because WE are trying to be courteous to them, but because they at some point felt discriminated against, went to court (because we're a "free" country), and got it passed because there were enough left wing nuts to let it happen. Either way you look at it, diversified companies and institutions either do it by choice, or because they are told to. It's the fact that it's even an issue that bugs me. Why can't a Muslim in the United States accept the fact that some people are Christians, and that they say "Merry Christmas," and that it's not to infringe on their beliefs or anything, and not take it personal and recognize that "freedom" in this country is to acknowledge other peoples' beliefs and not force them to do confirm and use this round-about "Happy Holiday" BS. Same reason why The Pledge of Allegiance isn't around anymore - and it was NOT because we realized that "hey we should rid this because Habib over there might have a problem with it." Nope, it's because our free country allowed his a$$ to make a deal of it. Catch-22, and it can only go downhill!! It's unfortunate, really. It's been displayed every year since the 1960's. Our town is 95% Christian. The Nativity is staying for now but lately I wonder for how long until the town is sued for it by some disgruntled atheist. I struggle with the expanded interpretation of the first amendment that tramples tradition yet I understand the argument of those that want to totally separate church and state. But then again It's ok to have a non-denominational "In God We Trust" on money. I just shake my head when stuff like that happens. There needs to be some balance here. Many don't understand what the Constitution says regarding Church and State. The founding fathers intended for the USA not to be ruled by any one religious denomination, for example, like Iran is. They did not intend for Ten Commandment memorials, for example, to be removed from State owned buildings - obviously - because since their time and for 200+ we have always had such things, including God and related engravings, castings, words of the Bible and related all over our oldest Government buidlings, not to mention prayers before certain Government gatherings and the like and so on. What's going on is that Liberal athiests are doing all in their power to eradicate any mention of religion in our society and take us completely toward a secular society. Liberals are attempting, and succeeding in many ways, to eliminate our traditions. On the course they want to take us, the Muslims will grow in number and eventually overtake us as more and more people abort (kill) their babies, as will the spanish-speaking peoples from the Carribean and Mexico. Destruction of tradition and fundamental United States culture will only serve to eventually help takes us down as a nation. This is honestly how many felt about the warrantless wiretaps, the suspension of habeas corpus, and the secret prisons where people are held years with no charges and no trial, no defense, not even allowed to know or see the evidence against them. These are things I think that are far more important than Columbus day and far more likely to "eventually help takes us down as a nation". These are some of the founding principles of this nation and more were part of what moved the colonists to revolt. I found those things personally far more troubling!
