The Stripes Thread

Recommended Posts

Today marks 81 days that my Shelby has been out of service...all for a simple hood pin corrosion remedy and full stripe replacement. Needless to say I'm a little angry and have long since lost all faith in Ford Racing and Shelby Autos. Shelby tells you to call Ford, Ford says they'll cover all of the warranty work....great, but who's stuck paying 3 months worth of payments and insurance for a car they can't even see? I am; the sucker who bought a Shelby. And what if this had been my daily driver? Would Ford splurge for a loaner for THREE MONTHS?! I'm sure the work would have been completed much quicker if Ford were losing money, but right now, I'm the only one losing money.

I started my stripe hood scoop replacement with my dealer over 9 months ago and have had the car in 5 different times. I got the car back today from them because they were going to correct the center stripe on the scoop that dosn't match the vista blue color and guess what....that's right they did nothing to correct it after having my car for a week.

I have been thru the entire swing of emotions anger, disgust, and so on. I left it with the dealer today that they had to re-order a scoop a set of stripes and we are going to start over, the center stripe is off by an 1/8th of an inch to the passenger side, the stripes are anywhere from 3/4 of an inch to 1 1/4 inch apart and they are put on about 1/4 of an inch to the drivers side. I really don't know what to do at this point they have taken my hood off so many times is has a scratch on the drivers side by the hinge, they striped one of the bolt holes on the passenger side and not to mention the time I have been without my car and the mileage it has had put on it for them to shuttle it to different body shops to put the stripes on!

What do I do now???? Where is Shelby to help or Ford sice this is a manfacture defect and now a installer issue how do I get this fixed and over with????

Mick

Good luck to all who are waiting on thiers to get fixed.:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry: :cry

Hi everybody,

After 2 1/2 months of waiting i finally got my Shelby GT-H.

I have an question about the stripes on my car.

I need too replace them because the Florida sun got the best out of them!

I read that their is a warrenty for 3 year but I guess went it left the US so did the warrenty!

So I was looking around on the net and found out that Ford sells new one but

i am not sure about the color. Ford calls it Pearl gold! Is that the real color for a GT-H?~

Thanks

To my knowledge the only place to buy the correct stripes for the GTH is Shelby Performance Parts not Ford. I would check with them and then go to local auto graphics companies to see what material they have that might match close enough or for a quote to put on the Shelby stripes should you buy those.

google thedecaleshoppe in surprize az they make a decal kit for a shelby GT-H in the right color and are good folks, no they are excellent folks to deal with, all the correct cut outs etc.

The did my SGT/BJ, there site also has videos on how to do it, I highly recommend and they stand behind there product and it is reasonably priced, go for the high performance 7 year vinyl.

Well, I got restriped. Straighter than before. Scratched from one end to the other. New scratches on the trunk, driver door and hood. I know they are new cuz there weren't any before. Cant see it in bright sunlight, but sticks out pretty good in the garage. Don't want them touching the car anymore. Anyone got some tips for removing these scratches? It looks to me like it was done by the squeegee, side to side. This sucks.

One nice thing, my scoop was painted and the block off piece of rubber under it was removed. Looks better to me.

Someone else on here said the GT-H's stripes are not covered under warranty because only the original owner is covered, and that was Hertz. Its up to you to pay for the new stripes if he was right.

I think what bothers me the most about this is that neither Ford nor SAI issued recalls for what is apparently maunfacturer's defects. It appears that this is definitely not isolated. I am in Afghanistan, so I can't go check my own, but my wife took our SGT to our local Ford dealer because our stripes are crooked. They are trying to work this out for me. It wasn't until recently that I heard about the hood pin issue or the rust problems. We are taking the car in to the dealer to have my new Razors put on, and I will be sure to get these areas closely scrutinized. I realize this is not a safety issue, but a recall is in order to take care of loyal customers. Just my $.02.

Agreed. I'm surprised no one has suggested a class-action lawsuit over lost time and money during these on-going repairs. Today is day 101, yes that's right, one hundred and one days, that my Shelby has been out of service for hood stripes and hood pin corrosion. After multiple lengthy calls to Ford Performance (Shelby warranty issues) and Ford, Shelby points the finger at Ford for their dealerships being at fault, and Ford points the finger at Shelby for defective parts. During a second hood stripe installation to repair the defective first replacement, I found out that Shelby sent two passenger side rocker panel stripes and none for the driver side, and the hood stripe has an "X" pattern across it. Shelby agreed to send new ones (yet again), but meanwhile, I'm still without my car. Even though I can't drive it, the payments don't stop coming. I figure I may as well wait until spring to pick it up since we have salt all over the roads now.

Sorry to hear about your issues. I know this is the "stripes" thread, but many posters on the "hood scoop" thread have entertained the prospect of a class-action suit. I hope it doesn't come to that. These are issues that Shelby and Ford need to discuss so they can figure out a way to keep their customers. I wonder how much it would cost to replace all of the hood scoops and repair the stripe/hood pin issues in relation to the lost future sales because they didn't correct the problems. I have seen several posts where otherwise loyal buyers have stated they would never buy another Ford/Shelby product again, all because of these defects. Business-wise, I believe it would be smart money to recall all affected Shelbys, and fix the problems. Do it right and get it behind them. They may be able to keep customers that way. Then again, some bean counter probably has them convinced to weather the storm, and that it would be cheaper to lose a few loyal customers than to treat them right and count on their repeat business. Best wishes for a solution.

Go to 3M or Orcal's web sites and check out their auto vinyl warranties and you will see that on average they run 4-5 years with 3M's highest quality material, that doesn't come in silver or gold, having an 8 year warranty, and that's when cared for properly!

Here we are talking about a rental car that's been beat, washed and scrubbed with who knows what, and is 4 years old. To expect that the vinyl isn't going to have issues is completely unrealistic as is any talk about a "class-action" lawsuit.

Also, I don't understand how a car to be "out of service" for 101 days because of stripes or a scoop? Did someone remove the old stripes and scoop without first getting the parts? I don't understand that post at all can you explain what "out of service' means?

Although I didn't buy my car to sell at a later date, I wonder how much difference it would make in the collector's value to go with either painting the stripes on, or replacing with a better quality stripe set. It would be nice if Ford/Shelby made this right with all the owners, but how many of us could have saved ourselves a lot of anguish by just replacing the stripes at a reputable shop with better quality stripes. I have an '05 Mustang with aftermarket Le Mans stripes. My car has about 80K miles and the stripes look about the same as they did when I bought the car. I had one minor peel touched up several months ago, but they look fine. I had my local Ford dealer check the stripe/pin/scoop issues against my SGT and fortunately mine are in good shape, with my hood stripes being just a little crooked. They are still trying to work that issue with Shelby. Best wishes to you all for a suitable outcome.

104 days now...I might have it back by Christmas. It's gotten to the point where executives from Ford Motor Company are getting involved as well as the director of Ford Racing. The first replacement was botched by the dealer's installer...stripes crooked, too far apart, and then he cut them while they were on the car causing damage. That dealer had to order new stripes, but meanwhile I couldn't drive it since some of the new stripes had been removed to document the scratches from cutting the stripes, and the hood scoop was off so there were 20some-odd holes in the hood from the rivets. That dealer sat on it for over a month at which point Ford Performance told me to take my car as-is and drive it 100 miles away to another dealer that was "Ford Racing approved." That dealer has had it for about 60 days. The scoop was still off as were some stripes, and that dealership had to start the claim process ALL OVER AGAIN for the same repairs since it was at a different dealership. Add in the hood pin corrosion and that was more paperwork and photographs. Shelby didn't like their price for the hood pin corrosion and made them take it to two different shops for price quotes. When it was finally approved, the installer found that Shelby had sent TWO passenger side rocker panel stripes and NONE for the driver side. Also, one of the hood stripes had an "X" pattern across it, so they couldn't install the scoop since it would have to be taken off again to replace the "X" stripe, and then a whole new scoop would have to be ordered. Shelby's supplier is behind on stripes so I'm still waiting for a rocker panel and new hood stripe. Then the hood stripe has to cure for three days before installing the scoop. Simple enough explanation? haha. I'm starting to forget what my car looks like....

Not trying to get in your business, and trust me, your not alone on the stripe deal. I would let the stripes cure for more than 3 days. I skipped all the warranty stuff and purchased a new set of stripes and had them installed by a very good quality body shop that specialized in graphic application.

The body shop told me that the stripes needed to cure about a week to set right. Three days in this cold weather may not be long enough. It is an absolute pain and many of us have been through this and feel your pain, I was down about 3 weeks and it gets old fast. I can't imagine how your keeping your cool.

The majority of use who have been there can tell you after you get it right, you'll start to enjoy your car. Hang tight, it gets better. If you have gone back and reviewed all the treads on stripes and scoop installation, you'll see the members that did the best found a dealer that knew what they were doing or had enough sense to sub it out to a graphics specialist. Good luck.

Sorry folks for the double post, all this red and candy canes is making me cross eyed, good grief I'm actually starting to think this is the way the forum should be, must be getting too close to Christmas.

Just my thoughts...... Glenn

I'm thinking already it would have been cheaper for Ford and all to get you a new hood and start again with a good body shop and then a good strip shop, than back to the body shop and done.

That's what I did! I like that my stripes go under the washer nozzles and rear faux gas cap too by going 3rd party.

Maybe that's what Ford Racing is hoping I do, I got news for them, it ain't going to happen. The car is under warranty so why should I pay extra out of my pocket for it. It's like hiring a gardener and mowing your lawn yourself. Like I posted earlier, my claim was filed in September and I'm still waiting for the "unique"(excuse given to me by F.R.) stripes. I'm beginning to think THEY ARE coming from China by foot.

If the point is to pay for something out of pocket that is covered by warranty, then yeah, I guess I'm missing the point. I've had the stripes on my roof and front bumper replaced already (under warranty) and my dealer used an excellent place that did a fantastic job. So no complaints there. My only complaint is having to wait several months (since September for me) for stripes now (claim is still under warranty). It's not like they are made out of some super secret material that is in short supply because it is also used by the F22 Raptor and is needed for the war. They are just stripes, but according to Ford Racing, they are unique, which is why they are on backorder and in high demand (their excuse, not mine).

However, once they are out of warranty coverage then yes, I agree, having them replaced on your own by a competent company makes all the sense.

As has been said, an OPTION is to match the stripes and have the shop your dealer uses do the work, billing your dealer for the install just as they normally would.

The stripe cost is minimal.

You pay for the new stripes and when the SPP stripes FINALLY come in sell them, for what your stripes cost, to someone here that has been denied warranty repair, and there are many, or sell them on ebay. I was able to cover all my costs this way and have a MUCH higher quality stripes all around. For what I was able to get with Ford's money and selling my hood and roof stripes I had my entire car redone with ONE high quality set rather than the mish-mash of stripes it was going to have had I gone the warranty route.

Talked to my dealer today, they said they were sopost to start sending stripes out on Dec. 11. Backorders need to be filled first. Has anyone received theirs? Dealer has had my car for 7 weeks, replacing hood. Was told they have 30 days to complete work on car,so work start on car. They were not told the stripes were on backorder!!! I'm not happy! Now like everyone else im paying for a car to sit in the shop. Wish I read this before I droped the car off.
