aguy
I am new to the Shelby thing but am interested in knowing how to get a "modern" suspension under a great car. In an effort to save $5000 bucks, Ford put an old style suspension under this beast. I guess if all you want to do is go straight and fast, this set up works. Does Shelby Autos do upgrades or is there aftermarket parts? <_< <_<
RogerS
Actually the suspension in the Shelby GT and GT500 are quite good. Maybe some old technology but very reliable and successful in racing circuits. The FR500 C race car has the same basic suspension with upgrades. A watts linkage set up along with adjustable coil over shocks does wonders. The suspension in the Shelby GT is the Ford Racing Suspenion package. It is really a detuned FR500 package tuned for the street. There are many threads you can search within the forum to find out what some of the memebers have done to their cars. Welcome to the forum. ShelbyPilot
What kind of things are you looking for? You can do common modifications like shocks, springs, sway bars and control arms. You can find those parts from several manufactures through several vendors. If you are looking for something more advanced you can invest in a watts link system. Watts link systems have been around for alonc time and they make you live axle car handle more like an independent suspension car. They are sold by Saleen, Lakewood, Fays2, and others. they range in price from about $500-1300. They have different attributes. Below are two links to thread to read about. On car is my Shelby GT and the other is a GT500. I have the Fays2 watts link. It is a completely bolt on application. To me the rear no longer jumps around when you hit odd bumps in a straight line or through a turn. When driving through corners it feels like the rear tracks the front much better then it did before. I have had minor issues with noise but Mr Fay has trouble shot those problems as being installation error from my installer. Despite that I am 90% happy with the product. If nothing else read through the Fays2 web site and it gives alot of information on theroy and how everything works. the you can decide if you want a watts link and if you want one from them or another company. http://forum.shelbyautos.com/index.php?showtopic=1931 http://www.stangsunleashed.com/forums/inde...?showtopic=9178 http://fays2.net/
ilmor
These "old style suspensions" are tearing it up in the Koni Challenge Series GS class. The Mustang has more wins than any other this year and is leading in the points. Koni Challenge
