Gas guzzler tax and horsepower rating are unrelated. Gasguzzler tax is based on the EPA's MPG test.

The crank horspower for the SGT is 319. That's the # the car tested got.

There was no incentive to downgrade the hp from the original estimate of 325 (e.g. it's unrelated to the GGT). You perform the test, you get a hp number.

The test has a 3rd party observer and the car is checked to make sure it's got the same set up as the ones made at the factory.

Actually, the SGTs have closer to 330 hp than 319. They were rated at 319 to save on the gas guzzler tax.

It's truly confusing:

I had an 07 GT with FRPP's "Drag Pack"-basically the addition of 4.10 gears and ceramic shorty headers to the FRPP "Power Pack" that SAI puts on our car.

I had that car dyno'd at 282 RWHP which equates to about 319 at the crank.

Here's the mystery-I KNOW that this Shelby is measurably faster? How? I don't know-my guess is the tune but there was a custom tune loaded in the other car. A good friend who drives a C-6 says that got I lucky and got a "Factory Freak".

I'm going to have this car Dyno'd over the next few weeks (mainly because I am going to add long tube headers and I want to see if I get the 15-20 HP gain that I'm expecting). Bottom line-I get the feeling this car truly is closer to 330 at the crank. We'll see soon.

We've discussed this before here

Polecat, using a dynojet and with no mods, I predict your car (assuming it's a manual) will get 280rwhp +/- 1hp.

Using 12.2% drivetrain loss (based on 319 EPA tested hp at the crank)this will come out to 319 at the crank.

As I said before in that other thread, until someone hooks up another SGT to perform the test at the crank, the rest is conjecture. Until then 319hp is the only datapoint we have.

The often quoted 15% drivetrain loss is just a rough average/rule of thumb. I think we all agree that different cars (with different components) are going to have different drivetrain losses.

For example I would think that the Mustang has a lower drivetrain loss than say a pickup truck.

Taking the average of an F-150 or F-250 and a mustang drivetrain loss and you may average 15% drivetrain loss.

And regardless the car is listed in ALL Shelby and Ford literature...what ther is of it...at 319 HP not the 330 this dealership is listing it at. Unfortunately another dealer not knowing his a*s from his elbow.
