Need Your Advice!!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone:

I have learned more on this site in the last few days than a thousand Ford dealers would ever provide. For financial reasons I fit into that category of buyers that will have to wait until 2008/2009 to get the car of my dreams. I live in Southern California and the wait lists are crazy here: I checked with 10 local dealers and the waiting lists range from 50 to 500! Although it would be nice to be the first on my block to have it I am content waiting and hopefully allowing the price to stabilize and the kinks to be worked out. I have a couple of questions that I hope you can help me answer.

1) I happen to be 6-foot 8-inches tall, so you can imagine I have some difficulty finding a car that fits. I currently drive a 2000 Chrysler 300M which works well for my size. I haven't bothered looking at Mustangs in the past because they haven't had enough room. I've been encouraged by the write-ups on the 2007 GT500 which state "The tallest drivers in our customer base have not been fully happy with Mustangs," says Jay O'Connell, SVT cheief vehicle engineer. "We've changed that in this all-new car, while maintaining the pit feel essential to the car. The extra space makes a world of difference on long drives." I have not yet been able to actually sit in the 2007 GT500 and I am hoping you can provide me with information regarding what you think about the amount of space available. Any tall guys out there who can tell me if there's enough room?

2) I didn't want to get caught up in this frenzy to be one of the first to have the car this year and getting stuck with a big outflow of cash, which I can't afford anyway. Will Ford produce enough GT500s with second and third runs in 2008/2009 to satisfy people in my position?

Now, if I can only convince my wife that I NEED this car... Thanks for your input, Dan

My buddy sat in the Coupe at the Toronto Auto Show he's 6,6" 290 Lbs (Very Big Man) and he indicated he plans on driving mine (Not likely) thought it was snug on the sides but otherwise comfortable..not sure on the convertable. What was interesting and not sure if you've given this any thought but the vehicle rides quite high which made it really easy to get into at my buddies height.

It looks like the car will have a production run in 2007 of approximately 7K- Cars and a smiliar amount in 08. Rumours abound if the car sells well the numbers may go up to 10K.

I suspect though you will run into the same mark up in 08 as in 07. Friend of mine went out of state to Seatle to order his, 5K mark up but much better than 20-35K. The frenzy thing I suspect may not be an option as once all the 07's are gone the same thing will happen in 08 possibly worse given the huge demand on the car. Once blood hits the water..well you know the rest __/\__:sos:

I have seen a number of discussions on other forums around purchaing powerlease options which you may want to investigate seems a very good option to gurantee a vehicle at a better rate. A number of them on ebay....make sure you buy from someone with a good reputation :)

Lastly the wife discussion is an easy one...what does she want....I wanted the car...My wife wanted

Hot Tub ....Check - Coleman 481.

New Kitchen ....Check....guys are painting as we speak.

Vacation without the kids....Trip to Dominican Republic....Check....went in January

Vacation with the Kids....Trip to Bermuda.....Coming up next month.................

I never said it was cheap...I just said it was easy.

Good Luck!

Cheers,

Welcome. This is a very good site, and getting better every day. As to the size issue, the dash is lightyears ahead of the SN95 interior, with good cutaway for knees' etc. I don't think it will be an issue, however seat extenders shouldn't be long for the aftermarket if needed. Availability well, if you don't have an in, you might want to start doing some research. I get the feeling that as few as 20% will be lease returns, demo's, etc. However gas is never going back down to $40/brl. so after the speculators are out of the market, you just may be able to role the dice. And as to your first lady issue, tell her what I have my G/F.... Have you ever really seen me upset? Unhappy? Insane with desire for an inanimate object? Well that's because nobody stopped me the last time...... :hysterical:

For the record the reason the Toronto car rode so high was because it was a GT that had been rebadged for the show. Ever notice that every show that there was a GT500 it was on a turntable, roped off etc and yet in Toronto it was just sitting there amongst all the other Stangs? Now you know why ;)

Tell you what, the car better not be that high or the first stop will be the performance shop for a set of lowering springs

I would dought a third year will be produced.

I think '09 model year will be onto fresh blood by then.

My guess....

2007 7500 units

2008 8500-10k units

And that's all she wrote.

Too bad that's not the red we're getting and that I wanted.

Funny thing about the red, I got into a debate with my dealer as I really like the red of the protoype and was on the fence. Dealer asked what my problem was with the Torch red as we were looking at the GT. I pointed out that the red on the GT did not look anything like the red on the prototype. He indicated there was no difference. I think I mumbled under my breathe huge difference, he laughed and said the prototype was likely buffered shinier than my grandmothers crystal.

Went with black..just did not want to take a chance and be disappointed.!

I do not know the exact color used on prototype, but Torch Red does have the characteristic to look very different in different types of lighting. It looks Viper reddish in bright morning sun, looks more orange in overcast sun, and looks different in artificial lighting. With a high quality polish and a couple coats of carnauba wax it will look awesome, just my opinion. Ebony is very nice too just harder to keep looking at it's best. :yup:

I have an 05 GT Mustang. It is Torch Red with Red/Black interior. I saw a prototype of the GT500 last summer at the Oshkosh Air Show and it looked exactly the same as mine in color. Is the final version going to be different? It is called the same - Torch Red. Any info would be helpful as I ordered a Torch Red GT500 as I love the color.

Well, you and I have this in common. Good you laughed at your dealer as you are correct and he is not. Right up to this morning I again visited a local dealer to again check colors. Red is still in my mind but I know 100% it is not the Toronto show car red or the concept red and I too don't want to be disappointed. I've posted on 'red'a few times now. I had black in the past and for the same reason will probably go black again........more than likely with Tungsten stripes too. Brampton eh?? Hmmmm...................we going cruising late summer????

Here's some photos of it.

fyi, I personally took those photos by the way at the Toronto Show and would buy what I saw in a heartbeat................that's not Torch Red though.........

If you already have Torch Red, you like it so you'll have no problems. From the many questions I've asked in the past, seems like the concept car and some show cars are painted 'performance red'or 'SVT red' so I'm told.

Hell Yah :shift:

Color discussion was probably the most difficult choice, since having put the pics all over the place in the house, office, Screen savers....its done.

uhmm cough...maybe blue with performance white...
