Blue or Red air filter?

Recommended Posts

Looking at pics on line I see both blue and red air filters on the 08-09 KR’s.  Is this a customer change, a random selection during the builds or a date code change moving from one or the other?

My ‘08 has red.

Thanks shepp.  I thought the same thing, but I’m seeing a lot of red filters on the KR’s.

Here is a wrapper 2009 with 33 miles:

and a 08 with 2,850 miles:

I have found at least a dozen others with the same red filter.  Seems very unlikely that these did not leave Shelby this way.

Are we sure the "red" isn't just the filter oil color, similar to what is found in a K&N filter recharge kit?

When I bought my '09 a few months ago, the filter was very dry and had probably never been serviced.  Ten years and 2,800 miles later the filter looked white-ish.  I purchased a BBK "blue" cleaner/oil recharge kit P/N 1100 and it is good as new again.  Sorry that I did not capture a "before" picture, but here it is now.

Yes, I’m sure it is the oil.  30 years from now MCA guys will be debating what color is correct.   I like the blue and I need to refresh mine, the BBK looks great. Thanks for posting the pics!

Yup they had a blue tinge color when new that in no time at all turns gray, even if the car isn't driven.

If the filter has a red color it has been re-oiled with red oil or the filter has some dirt that is giving the appearance of red oil.

But more importantly is the amount of oil applied to the filter, less is more. The majority of time people over saturate the filter with oil.
