Another SHELBY decklid question!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I have a new set of letters and would like to space them on the center.

I just did a search and read through a bunch of old posts but I had printed off something from a long time ago where they made measurements based of the KR concept car.

They listed the key hole as 30mm wide, which is definitely not true for my car. The reason this is a problem is because they started from that point and worked there way out so I figure if its wrong to begin with, it will just get more wrong as I move my way out.

I wanted to use his measurements because I liked the look of the spacing of the KR concept.

I have the print outs here but could not find the original thread.

My car is a little over a week old so I figure the sooner I take off the old ones, the easier they will come off.

thanks, any help appreciated for the measurments, or if someone has some other easy to follow measurements please post so I can set some painters tape on the back set up :D

hmm, looks good except I do not have stripes, and even though it looks like the key hole is the same width as the gap between the stripes in the middle, it is not the same.

Oh and just noticed all your letters are based from the stripes :(

Chuck, it's very simple, just measure your upper brake light and get the centerline and work out each way from there.

The reason I disagree haha is because each letter is not the same width and if you truly want your letters to be spaced right(evenly), you can't just say 20mm out for the L, 40mm out for B and 60mm out for the Y.

You know what I mean

Those days are short lived, soon it will be every day. You'll start volunteering to go where ever and when ever some one wants or needs some thing,

When I'm home, if my wife mentions she needs some thing I'm out the door heading to the car.... :hysterical2:

Enjoy your ride.

Don't concern yourself with the width of each letter and the spacing between them. use the centerline of each letter to space with. check that post...

I have seen several posts, differing variations, and differing comments about the complexity. Some guys state the old one came right off, while others struggled to get them off. Some guys bought new letters and figured out a way to stick them on, like two way tape, while others have just used the old ones, nothing else and reapplied them. :banghead:

It would be nice to hear some feed back on if anyone lost a letter, using either method! Or has anyone attempted to use the old and reapply and they did not stick? Or has anyone bought new and found the double stick tape did not hold up well? How are these stuck on at the plant? :banghead:

I used a hair dryer and fishing line and they came right off but it took a while to clean the tape residue off the deck lid. I bought new letters and they seem to be stuck firmly - they come with the 2-sided tape already on them. I used the spacing that jcthorne showed in an earlier thread and they look just right to me.

A product called 3M adhesive remover will make the task of removing the old adhesive once the letters are off much easier. Available in the automotive section at WalMart.
