What would you rather have?

2008 for the anniversary factor.... but don't concern yourself with the collectibility.  My belief is fewer people are buying cars and even fewer are buying them as investments. BTW, if any TS member has a VB KR they may want to part with, I am all ears.

Is it because it's a 40th or that it's the first year back?

There are lower production numbers for 2009 so I thought they might be worth more money.. LOL

08 and 09 models are identical except for the cool 40th anniversary badging. Neither one is worth more than the other.

Just a curious question for all you guys.

If you had a choice on what year KR you could own, would you get the 2008 40th anniversary or the lower number production year of the 2009??

Going strictly from a production standpoint, the 2009 blue KR is the rarest at 88 produced compared to the highest produced KR being the 2008 silver KR with 476 being produced.

From a selling price point of view, I haven't seen much of a price difference between the 2008 & 2009 KR's.

In my opinion you would be better off concentrating on the individual car. For example would a 2009 KR with 500 miles on it be worth more than a 2008 KR with 1,000 miles on it?

Now what if that 500 mile 2009 KR had five different owners and the 2008 KR had one owner? What if the 2008 KR spent its life inside a California airport hanger and the 2009 KR spent its life in Ohio with several years of sitting outside on a dealerships lot?

So on paper a lower production 2009 KR with 500 miles would look like a better purchase compared to a higher production 2008 KR with 1,000 miles but using the examples above I would rather have a one owner KR from a dry climate compared to a multiple owner KR from a wet/salt climate with multiple owners.

Best of luck on your search.

Steve

Well let me clear the air just a little I own 6 Ponies a 641/2 D code convertible, February of 65 A code GT fastback, 68 c code coupe, 68 R code GT500 KR Fastback in process of restoration, 2002 GT convertible, and 08KR0186 Kr with 1742 miles. I am looking to get another one and was trying to find out if the 08 is worth more than the 09 to the enthusiasts of the KR community.

There isn’t much difference in 08, 09 KRs, and yeah there is the 40th thing if that floats your boat to have those badges on a KR but it doesn't mean much in the current market. You are going to get multiple opinions about which car is worth more, but only time will tell who values which version more and none of us own a crystal ball. SAI-Steven answered the question very well a few hours ago. I would heed his advice and concentrate on the merits of the individual cars available...........not whether it was "rare" or had a certain badges on it.

As the others here have stated, there isn't a value difference between the two, so it comes down to the individual car itself and its attributes.

When the new gen was announced I knew I wanted a 08 to bookend my 68.

I did add a red 09 to the toy box, but have since sold it.

Which one?? LOL

my 68 is Acapulco Blue with White stripes and my 2008 is Silver with Blue stripes..

That is a great color combo with the two cars.

My 68 is DHG, and my 08 silver. (I've been flirting with wrapping my 08 in dark green which really works on that body style. Think: Bullitt)

That's exactly why I picked up my 08 but since I've pretty much decided to get another one I was just curious as to what the forum thought would be the better one for resale just in case I sale it. lol

My 08KR is coming up on 50,000 miles, so I'm not to worried about originality at this point any longer. (that ship has sailed) But with a wrap, it could always be removed easily enough.

I think it would be wicked cool to see one in that color!

Probably doesnt matter. For me i would try to get a 2008 because of the 40th, but the quality of the particular car 08 or 09  would decide my descission...as long as it is Vista Blue😜

Concentrate on the individual car and not the model year and you'll be just fine.

I like them black.

I like ‘em all. Mine happens to be black. Wouldn’t kick any of ‘em out of the garage though. ^_^

Years ago, many others had the same questions about which to get - the ‘08 with the cool “anniversary” badges, or the ‘09, which supposedly had the better flywheel in most of ‘em, and the funky, modded Exploder diff cover (not all ‘08s had it). I think that at this point, it makes no real difference. Condition / mileage of the car is what matters most, followed by whether it’s been tastefully modded or not (did Mr. Shelby scribble on anything?), also the original paperwork and all the goodies it came with... I still have most of the stuff mine was supposed to have and it’s still mostly stock. My brake cooling kit is still new in the box. Either year would be just fine; my KR is an ‘09.

The S197 does look sweet in DHG - here’s a pic of my ‘08 Bullitt:
