Bishop #0447
Hey guys, so I bought my Shelby GT from auction WRECKED and have completely fixed it and brought it back to stock and it’s being painted with stripes or i would have pictures. I just want to know your guys’ opinion on what it may be worth back to stock shape with a salvage title. All opinions welcome positive or negative. William Rodgers
Need more information, how many miles? What was the extent of the damage? Condition of interior? Personally I wouldn’t buy a salvage title car, but I’m thinking low to mid teens if all checks out OK.
mhr1961
Your question is sort of like asking “how long is a piece of string”. Not being a smart-aleck, just saying that there are so many variables to consider, some of which have already been mentioned. You may get a wild swing in response because some people aren’t bothered at all by a salvage title and some would not touch one with a ten foot pole. As C Nut mentioned, the extent of damage, quality of repair, and the mileage are the biggest what ifs? If you are seriously curious you could just advertise it for sale at above what you think it is worth and see if you get any bites at or near your ask, but if you have no intention of selling that is wasting other people’s time. I don’t have a guess on value but I would say that C Nut is not far off in the range he mentioned to you. I commend you for saving a Shelby from the scrap heap. Too many went there in the decades past. Keep it and drive the wheels off it….. that is where the true worth is.
twobjshelbys
Would want to see before pictures. Did air bags deploy? Frame damage?
Glenn Greenwell
i think a salvage title will over time cause you to loose money, better to have just bought a used one. GG
Bishop #0447
Yeah I totally get what you guys are saying. Maybe when I get the car back I can get some pics up for you guys and it could help a lot more. I am only 20 so buying a used clean title Shelby at 18 wasn't exactly an option lol. Just getting it done in this last 2 years from where it was it is good enough for me.
mfield2a
Maybe not. I have purchased 2 salvage “toy” vehicles prior and never lost out. It all depends how much you put into it! Edited April 15, 2018 by mfield2a
mhr1961
Bishop, Don’t let anyone discourage you. It is admirable in and of itself that you saved a Shelby and that you did it when you were only 18 to 20. Not many people if any on here can make that claim. Kudos to you young man. We need more members your age. Edited April 15, 2018 by mhr1961
kevin
I have worked in the retail automotive business for 45 years. We normally value a salvage title vehicle at 50 percent of a clean title car when appraising it for trade. We never retail a salvage title car. They are always wholesaled . paul burgess
good on you,if you are keeping it enjoy it and take it easy,as long as you know that the car was brought bak to spec,up here in Canada the car has to be safety checked abd a tag is put on the inside pillar saying rebuilt or altered
Bishop #0447
much appreciated guys I do like all the feedback a lot it helps give a good idea of what you all think it's worth and it gives me things to consider. I probably won't sell it it's just good to know what it is worth. It is really a dream to just have one lol if I got rid of it I would have wasted the last two years working with my dad to get it all done. Love it so much. Still have my 2000 Mustang GT not sure I can get rid of it though! Too much sentimental value
SoCalSGT
If you bring it back to life and keep it, no one is ever going to know it's a salvage car unless it's something you want to share about the history of it. If you do it right, just drive it, enjoy it and at some point in the future you decide to get rid of it, sell it to someone who might want to track it. Kudos for your effort and saving a Shelby! ledfoot73
Where did you buy it from? Mine was sold in Tulsa toward the end of last year. If it was my 2008 I could give you info on its history.

cobrakidz
Way back when I was in the collision repair business and when we dealt with the insurance companies, they valued the salvage titled cars at 60% of a clean title car. It may have changed since then but that was the general rule of thumb.
