Fat Boss
Has anyone put hood struts on their 2011 to 2014 GT350's? My concern is fitment with the fiberglass hood, and the ability to hold that boat anchor up!
Don Johnston
would like to know as well.
SoCalSGT
I have, but the first set wouldn't hold the hood up. Had to put a stronger set on and they work fine. I can search through my paperwork if you want the specifics. If I recall I got them from Cal Pony Cars, but they have to be the exact ones to work. Fat Boss
Would you mind looking? I checked out the website but there's a hundred different ones...
SoCalSGT
Okay, here's the link to the replacement struts that I eventually wound up with. You might want to call them and find out the part number etc for the initial package that contains that strut. When I got these I just popped the first ones off and put these on, using the same brackets that came with the originals. Color coordinated of course. http://calponycars.com/2005-2014-mustang/940-2005-2011-90lb-gas-struts-replacement.html Edited March 22, 2018 by SoCalSGT
Fat Boss
You rock! Thanks for the link. I'll be getting these very soon.
SoCalSGT
My pleasure. We spent quite a bit of time getting the correct struts for this hood. I even sent them a video of my hood slowly descending at first only to pick up speed and slam shut had I not caught it. So the sales and back room guys are pretty familiar with this hood since this took place in Dec. Works fine now though.
Fat Boss
They won't sell the correct struts for our application. Kinda hard to believe, but ok it's only another 30 bucks. I think this is the kit to use, does yours look like this? Once I get the struts working I'm planning on a new radiator cover since mine's pretty rashed from the prop rod as well as has the sticker poorly placed on it with a big seam. Might as well go big. Despite it being a 2013 model year car, the radiator cover looks like the 2012 design. Probably to keep from having to design and stock another part number for a different hood for 2013. http://calponycars.com/2005-2014-mustang/322-eng-010-614.html https://trufiber.com/shop/2010-2012-mustang-carbon-lg46-fiber-radiator-cover/#prettyPhoto
SoCalSGT
This is what mine looks like. A little different from that one, but it's possible that I started off with the incorrect kit to begin with. At least now with the stronger struts the hood stays open! I like the radiator cover a lot. I tried to have mine done (by a TS member no less) but it didn't turn out so great. From a distance it looks just okay, up close, not so much, so I've been thinking about doing what you're doing - just buy a new one.

John Oneson Oneson
Did you ever get your hood struts installed?
Fat Boss
No, I'm lagging. Hopefully I'll get them on before SAAC 43 in Sonoma.
Don Johnston
Looking forward to seeing the installation (and meeting you) at SAAC-43.
Fat Boss
My brother and I installed the hood struts and radiator cover this weekend. Everything fit fine and looks great.

Fat Boss
Yes. But you also need these heavy duty struts. https://calponycars.com/2005-2014-mustang/940-2005-2011-90lb-gas-struts-replacement.html

Must use the heavy duty replacements. I'm surprised they haven't adjusted their ads since the amount of time I spent with them, including a video. John Oneson Oneson
Finally got hood struts installed.
Don Johnston
The ad says no drilling or cutting needed, but is that true on your 2013 GT350?
SoCalSGT
I can answer that on the 2011 there was no cutting or drilling. I did have to loosen the hood hinge bracket, as I recall, but that was no big deal. Just do one side at a time.
Don Johnston
Appreciate the information. Looks like something that I will get for my 2011 GT350. Edited February 26, 2019 by 66GT350PS

I ended up buying the painted JLT's versions. The paint came out great. Hope to install them in a week or two.
SoCalSGT
The white ones I got matched perfectly, fortunately, but I can see where you might have to be a bit more careful. The install is much quicker than you might think. I can't believe how much nicer it is with them installed. SoCalSGT
I may have misspoke....the mounting hardware matches the paint color but the struts themselves are black with logos on them. If you scroll up in this thread you'll see my pic.
