Hood Struts for 2013 GT350

Recommended Posts

I have, but the first set wouldn't hold the hood up. Had to put a stronger set on and they work fine. I can search through my paperwork if you want the specifics. If I recall I got them from Cal Pony Cars, but they have to be the exact ones to work.

Okay, here's the link to the replacement struts that I eventually wound up with. You might want to call them and find out the part number etc for the initial package that contains that strut. When I got these I just popped the first ones off and put these on, using the same brackets that came with the originals. Color coordinated of course.

My pleasure. We spent quite a bit of time getting the correct struts for this hood. I even sent them a video of my hood slowly descending at first only to pick up speed and slam shut had I not caught it. So the sales and back room guys are pretty familiar with this hood since this took place in Dec. Works fine now though.

They won't sell the correct struts for our application.  Kinda hard to believe, but ok it's only another 30 bucks.  I think this is the kit to use, does yours look like this?  Once I get the struts working I'm planning on a new radiator cover since mine's pretty rashed from the prop rod as well as has the sticker poorly placed on it with a big seam.  Might as well go big.  Despite it being a 2013 model year car, the radiator cover looks like the 2012 design.  Probably to keep from having to design and stock another part number for a different hood for 2013.

This is what mine looks like. A little different from that one, but it's possible that I started off with the incorrect kit to begin with. At least now with the stronger struts the hood stays open!

I like the radiator cover a lot. I tried to have mine done (by a TS member no less) but it didn't turn out so great. From a distance it looks just okay, up close, not so much, so I've been thinking about doing what you're doing - just buy a new one.

Did these end up working for you?

Correct! Our hoods are too heavy to use the standard lift kit. Must use the heavy duty replacements. I'm surprised they haven't adjusted their ads since the amount of time I spent with them, including a video.

Appreciate the information.  Looks like something that I will get for my 2011 GT350.

I ended up buying the painted JLT's versions.  The paint came out great.  Hope to install them in a week or two.

The white ones I got matched perfectly, fortunately, but I can see where you might have to be a bit more careful. The install is much quicker than you might think. I can't believe how much nicer it is with them installed.

Can you post a photo or two?  Thanks.
