Here's pics again.hope it shows up.

No idea but if I had to take a guess it appears to be some sort of rubber bumper, perhaps to keep the seat back from slamming down too hard.

Since you found the part in the interior, if you are familiar with Gary Disney you may want to email him a photo of the part to see if he recognizes it as an interior piece.

Very nice note from Gary Disney.case closed thanks for all the helpful suggestions.here's his note.

Wow, got me man, never have seen that particular part before. Maybe it was something that the installers used for their purposes? I do not use anything like that in any of our applications and I have not seen it in a Ford application or on any of the Mustangs I have personally worked on.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I don't think it's anything to worry about on your car.

Guess it is a Johnson rod.

Think my concern comes from having a number of old gtos, where every part had a purpose, and if something fell off the car would overheat,??

I have two thoughts..... one is a possible part ON the car and another not so much.

The possibility ON the car would be a bump stop on the glove box? The latter, and what it really looks like to me, is a stop on some sort of a lanyard or strap. Sorta like those built in stops on cheap electrical cords. ie. irons, and hand held appliances.
