Differential Cooler Oil Overflow Concern

Recommended Posts

When my Super Snake was delivered in mid May, I had oil on my garage floor near the right rear wheel. Discussing this with Shelby American, they indicated the differential may have been overfilled and the overflow is located in the area that oil was observed. They suggested turning on the cooler and running for a few miles. This seemed to corrected the problem until yesterday. I drove the car for about 3 hours on the previous day and again I have oil appearing on the floor near the rear wheel. The temperatures in the last few days have been pushing 100. I am wondering if there still is too much oil in the system and the heat expanded the oil causing the problem again.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with their Shelby? I will call Shelby American again on Monday to see what they recommend. My main concern is where I can take the car for service that is knowledgeable regarding the Shelby Super Snake.

Does your car have a differential overflow tank? Mine would occasionally puke gear fluid when I drove it hard so I had an over flow tank installed so when the gear oil heats up and expands it has somewhere to go. No issues since including track days.

No overflow tank. There is a breather tube in the right rear wheel area that is puking the overflow. I believe they may have overfilled the differential and cooler that in turn is causing my problem. Where is the overflow tank installed on your car? Do you have a breather tube like my installation?

There is a fitting on the right side of the diff on top of the axle. The tank mounts above that with the hose connected to that fitting.

BTW - I have a live axle in my car. I'm assuming yours is an independent rear and a completely different setup.
