Shaker 500 or 1000?

When ordering my GT500, I originally opted for the Shaker 500. I don't much care for the biggest, baddest system that you can get on this car. I currently own and drive an 05 GT vert, and find that I would rather listen to the exhaust noise than music. Sometimes on road trips I play a CD or listen to the radio since you can't hear the exhaust much anyway when cruising on the open highway. I'm also too old to care about whether someone in their house a block away can hear my woofers.

But then I went back to my dealer and changed my order to the Shaker 1000 and satellite radio, just because I thought it would add interest and make the car more special if I ever had to sell it, (heaven forbid). I didn't even ask him how much more that would cost since I'm already doing something somewhat finacially imprudent by getting this car in the first place. But I'm throwing caution to the wind since I really feel like this is my dream car that I will own and enjoy the rest of my life.

I guess in five years or so, it won't make any difference. :baby:

Don't forget that sometimes the rare cars are the ones that DON'T have all the bling.

I opted for the 500 because when I drive my Bullitt I rarely have the stereo above two bars and I suspect this car will be the same.

I agree, it is always the things that were the basic that are hard to find on cars down the road.

For what its worth I plan on ordering the 1000. Since I plan on keeping this car, I can just keep turning up the volume as I get older and start to lose my hearing.

Heh... good plan... take it from one who knows. Judging by your name you must have some noise cancelling headsets. Wear them!!

Ha Ha My CD player went on the fritz last fall and it was at least 2 weeks b4 I even noticed. Enough of these cars will be parked as a dubious investment so just get what you want. And weight is the enemy

I opted for the 500 because I'd like to be able to get a set of golf clubs in the trunk and you can't do it with the subwoofer of the 1000. Went to a dealer and tried it in a Mustang GT. If you don't use anything longer than a 5 iron, you're good to go.

Re: Sirius. First of all, let me preface this with a disclaimer that I work in radio, so satellite radio is evil :banghead:

That said, our industry spends a ton of time and money researching the pros and cons of satellite. Here's what we know for a fact:

Unless things change SIGNIFICANTLY there will only be one major satellite provider within the next two years. Neither Sirius nor XM are profitable and they don't have profit in the picture in the foreseeable future. Personally, I like that Sirius had NFL. But if they go south, someone else (XM probably) will have it. Sirius also shot themselves in the financial foot by buying out Stern's contract PLUS giving him the world. And, if Stern fans won't pay 12 bucks a month....as rabid as they are...imagine Joe down the street doing it. Not happening! Plus, for those of us who are old enough to remember when cable tv kicked off...we paid a fee for less commercials. Satellite is doing the same thing..same benefit model. Does it work? Nope. Go watch a Sunday movie on TBS and you tell me if it's less commercials.

Finally, there is new technology on the horizon. HD Radio is here. Many stations are already broadcasting in HD. The benefits are huge. The sound is CD or better in quality. No more "picket fence" sounds due to multipath. Each station that broadcasts in HD will be programming and offering (FOR FREE AT THIS JUNCTURE) a secondary and sometimes tertiary signal. You tune to, let's say, 102.3fm and hear your favorite station. You can then tune between it and the logical next step of 102.5fm. The HD radios do this automatically. You can have oldies on 102.3, disco on 102.3B and all motown on 102.3C. It's pretty cool. It includes RDS readouts for title and artist. Soon, we'll have realtime traffic scrolls available to you. And a lot more. Take a look at www.hdradio.com There are a few radios being built now....I have one in my office from Boston Acoustics that costs $299 and has a separate speaker (stereo) and a remote.

Sorry this was so long, but for all of you that are contemplating the best options for audio.....beyond an iPod...HD is something I thought you'd want to know about. The top broadcasting companies in the country are building their 2nd and 3rd stations right now, so every top 200 market will have a multitude of stations to choose from. (Thanks for reading a commercial for radio, but it's how I put food on the table and frankly satellite isn't the answer to most questions about terrestrial radio)

I didn't think about this before I ordered! My Mustang GT has the Shaker 500 and it is very adequate for my listening (at least for in the near future!)

We have the Shaker 500 in our current 05GT and found the need to add an amp and stealth sub in the trunk. Money spent and end result are about the same as if we had ordered the 1000 to begin with. We ordered the 1000 on the Shelby. But not the sat radio. Dont want the hump on the trunk or the monthly bill.

Yes...A joke.

On a 4000 pound car, the weight difference is minimal. In the 1/4 mile, cutting a good light and a good 60 foot time will make more difference. On the street - none.

Make your decision on what you want and how you use the car, don't think it will change performance enough to matter.

The space limitiation in the trunk is a bigger issue than weight.

Is there anybody out there that can honestly say they will ever need more than 2-250 watts???

500 watts will shake your licence plates right off.

KingCobra.

The Shaker 1000 Only adds two Subs and an AMP I think... Anways went with the 1000...when you washing and detailing the car I'm sorry its all about the tunes...and how loud you can crank em. Then again I'm in my late 30's still waiting for my hearing to go....and for those that couldn't get a set of clubs in the car...did you put the rear seat down...my dealer and I pushed back the seat on a GT and slid a set in in under 5 Minutes...noting it was a full set...now the umbrella and the manual pull cart...different story...ahh heck just get a Cart and drive the course...better yet ask em if you can take the gt 500 Its high enough that the hazards might be fun!

Cheers,

Since it has been brought up,

Does anyone know the weight difference between the 500 and the 1000?

I believe I read somewhere it was about 70 Lbs, two 10 Inch Drivers in a custom box in the back.

Cheers,

Top down, jamming up PCH heading due North. B) The Pacific is on your left, and the sound of the wind is rushing past your ears. The motor is purring, but you down shift :shift: to slow slightly through a curve; the engine starts to sing, then you power out and upshift. Engine is purring again but starts to blend into the wind noise abit. Hit play and turn up the sound two bars to your favorate road trip song. The song comes on and you react to it by depressing the pedal slightly until the needle in the speedo goes up a click or two. The wind noise around your ears increases some more, so you turn up the volume just a little more to compensate. Oh, man, Radar Love is starting! Downshift, power up to meet the beat of the song, and then upshift into the new speed and hold it there as along as you think you can get away with it....crap was that a trooper back there? :headscratch: Better back off for a few and cool it...

Shaker 1000 for my Vert is a must, damn the trunk space. No one's riding in the backseat anyway, so between that space and the little space that is available in the trunk, there's plenty of room for my bags and hers on a two nighter. Besides, I'm blessed to have other roomer cars, so if I need a trunk for a road trip, I'll drive something else. Crap, I don't even know if I want to take it on an overnighter somewhere, because I'd be up all night keeping an eye on it in the flippin Hotel parking lot, and that's after I've installed Lojack and Teletrac in the flippin car. Paranoid? Nope. I just live in Southern California and I know better. :sos:

I know what Lojack is, but what is Teletrac? :headscratch:

It came out just before Lojack, but LoJack eclipsed their sales to retail buyers because Teletrac has a monthly fee to monitor your car. The last I checked it was around $20.00/Month, but the car is always being tracked, and you can go to their website and track the car yourself via a satellite guidence map that plots were the car is or traveling to. LoJack is activated by the police only after they are notified to do so. Teletrac just regrouped their sales plan and then started marketing to fleets and trucking companies that use the service to track their vehicle's and driver's location, movements, and of course productivity. I've used the service for tracking Cable Television trucks as well as Rental cars. If fact, there was one case where I was tracking a overdue rental car and when I went to the website and started tracking the car, the icon (becon) was sitting in the Pacific Ocean about 20 miles off shore moving due West out to sea. We contacted Teletrac who inturn contacted the Coast Guard. The CG stopped and boarded the container ship at sea, and they discovered about fifty stolen vehicles that were on their way to somewhere in South America.
