I bought My Hertz Back!

Almost from the moment I traded it on the GT500, I regretted selling my 06 GT H.

Tomorrow, I get the FedEx package with the sales paperwork. Very satisfying to say the least. I feel like life will be right again.

That car has way too much history with my family to ever let it go again.

Congratulations! There are more capable cars out there but nothing (for me anyway) replaces the excitement I felt the first time I saw the GT-H back in 2006. Few cars drove more excitement when they were released than our GT-H coupes. If I'm ever tempted to sell #452 I'll re-read your note....

Nice. Read the beginning of this article. While its really about the 1966 HERTZ program it does reference the 2006 program at the beginning. Some day they will write about it. Yes the excitement: http://diyford.com/shelby-mustang-history-1966-gt350h-starting-grid/#

My Shelby has finally returned home today. The shippers dropped her off this afternoon. Now I have to work on getting cleaned back to my standards! It is good to have her home again. I guess it just kinda gets in your blood, doesn't it? I still find it hard to believe I have my original car back!

I think your car was on craigslist last January in Lancaster. Guy named RAY was selling it. Did it end up at Westside VW in St. Louis Park, MN?

That would've been me. I placed so much value on the car I didn't drive it. I thought that getting another that was less special would fit the bill.

It did end up at Westside. Traded it here at a Ford dealer on a GT 500 convertible. After 3 months, it went to Manheim Auction here in Lancaster. From there to MN on a truck.

Fast forward, now back in my heated garage getting clay bar and wax treatment. I can't tell you how much I think the GT H is the best looking Shelby I have ever seen. No offense to others, but as you can tell, I went to great lengths (and thankfully, a very understanding wife) to get her back.

Now, two of my cars have a special story. The travails of buying back my GT H and the history behind my family's 65 Mustang. They make for great family stories and memories.

Westside has had more Hertz cars than likely anybody. They really like buying them up and seem to be able to sell them well enough to keep doing it, which is strange considering it's a VW dealership. I'm glad you had a happy ending. Do you now intend to drive it more? I don't see the values in these cars going high anytime soon. Right now I still think they are very undervalued. Might as well drive/enjoy them.

It is the stories that make the cars special. Both the public story and your own personal story - I am super envious of you having your Dad's original 65 coupe. My Dad also had an ivy green 65 coupe that I was brought home from the hospital in (and was probably the reason he sold it) and I would give my left arm for it it still existed - however a 6 cylinder coupe from NYC is likely now a toaster. I also totally agree that the 2006 Shelby GT-H is the best looking and has the best story of all the S197 line - could care less if it is ever valuable or not as the personal story behind mine is priceless to me. I hope to pass it down to my son someday although this next generation doesn't have the connection to cars like ours or those that preceded us (another reason to question the long-term collector value of cars).

First pic is my son and I at the Rocktoberfest car show in PA. He accepted the award for Top Ten Best of Show . He was about 13 at the time and solidified him as a car guy.

Second pic is me presenting our '65 restored to my mother. It was her car. She took my sister and I everywhere in it. I dated my wife in it. It is a big part of our family. It also came from New York. My folks bought it at Christensen & Weiss Ford on Queens Blvd. I still have the window sticker!

All good.
