So I am driving down the road in my GT350 when a bear runs out...

in front of me. I hit the brakes as hard as I dared with a pickup hugging my ass...and I take evasive action. I just clip him in the butt as he flies by into the ditch and keeps going at a million miles an hour. I stop and check out the damage...it broke off the little black "eye brow" over the passenger side parking lamp and the bumper cover became disconnected from the front quarter panel (but obviously could be popped back in). No dents anywhere but there is a bit of fur and grease stuck to my bumper. When I got home the dog went right to where the bear hit...and went nuts. He's just a bitty dog.

Really lucky I didn't get killed. I was travelling about 5 over fortunately and those brakes saved me big time. It was middle of morning as I was headed for the airport...just as finished rounding a curve and he came out from behind a guard rail. The black bear was a full sized adult...he/she looked huge. Never want to do that again!

The accident occurred about an hour and a half north of Toronto in Muskokas Lakes area (Port Severn)

The final tally...$2,700 ($750 for the "brow" and $2,000 for a cracked signal light.

1. Glad you are okay, and didn't get hurt.

2. I've hit a deer and seen the damage they can cause. I can only imagine how bad an accident with a full grown bear would turn out.

3. $2000 for a new turn signal!!!!! Holy cow!! ?

Wow, glad you and the car are okay. However, if you hit that bear in the butt, that ain't "grease" (LOL). Wash that "crap" off quick.

:) I am guessing Ford dealer will clean it up. I didn't want to wash it before I took it in...in case insurance provider was to question what i hit. :detective:

Holy crap buddy.

Count your blessings and buy a Lotto ticket!

They got them in Ontario don't they???

Yup...we got em. I saw what a deer did to my brother's Navigator...and I can't imagine what would have happened to me and the GT if i had hit the brakes a couple of seconds later. There is way more to stopping a car with a manual transmission in a heart beat... :drop:

Your signature name on this here forum. Like BIKEBOY.

It's just that living up there, I remember Markham Ontario...no?

Edit- No biggie

Thats what I thought you meant, but wasn't sure. My first name is technically Markham but i go by Mark to everyone except my closest relatives. Markham is indeed the name of a well known City near Toronto.

That sucks, but at least it's fixable. I hit a little deer with my '64 1/2 one morning back in Cali, but more like bumped him cuz I was only doing about 35, saw one cross ahead of me, so I started slowing down, and the little one decided to cross right in front of me. I probably hit him doing about 15 after slamming on the brakes. And I saw three more cross behind me. Insurance covered the damage. Woulda been worse had it been one of the others. My gf was mad that I left him on the side of the road, but I didn't know what to do with him, and didn't think he'd fit in the trunk anyway. Woulda been tasty.
