Shelby letters on trunk

I purchased a use 2008 GT 500 in Jan 2016. I went to the Legacy Bank Shelby Show and saw that some Shelby's had Shelby on the left side of the trunk. My Shelby the letters are spaced and centered on the trunk. One of the Shelby people said that Ford build Shelby had letters on the left, and a Shelby that has been to Shelby for upgrade will have letters centered across the trunk? Does anyone know if this is true.

Your vehicle had them on the left side of the trunk when new from Ford.

Go to the Shelby American site (Link is at the top) and look at all the Shelby Mustang Mods and the Mustangs turned into Shelby Mods and you will see that ALL of them have the name Shelby spaced across the back. The regular Shelby GT 500 that comes from Ford has it to the side.

I thought so myself... however, after rendering MHO above, did some research and have seen a significant number of non SAI units w the lettering also centered/under the third break light. :headscratch: I will keep researching ...perhaps one of the SAI members can provide the answer.

Like also stated above.....many GT 500 owners chose to buy new Letters and spread them out across the Trunk because it looks better.

Wow, $25 for something I can lay out with some tape seems a bit steep. Or am I being cheap? Have been contemplating relocating the lettering on my car to the center. Anyone know if letters can be reused. What type of adhesive tape is used?

I have heard of people reusing them, the old ones have to be removed carefully and cleaned. 3M makes a good two sided tape.

It could be done, using 3M double sided tape. However, VERY tricky....as the tape is laser cut précisely to the letters and is difficult to achieve with a pair of scissors, or even a shiny new razor blade.

I will speak from my own experience here.....I removed mine and bought a new set to s p r e a d out. Eyeballed them; no template. Then super glued the old ones to the inside lid of my top tool box. :victory:

LOL. I have a pretty good eye but I wouldn't attempt without laying out measurements. Measure twice cut once.

May be worth getting a new set.

I believe the original poster question was answered but as far as I know all 2007-09 GT500 had the lettering on the left from Ford. They were centered when converted to a KR or SS.

I always thought a good project would be to get a truck lid from a junkyard, remove the zit on top and the brake light on back & paint to match the car. Move the brake light to inside top of rear glass. Then would have much more room to work with when moving the letters and I think would look way better. Has anyone already done this and posted pictures?
