EL SHELBY
Decided to take the SGT to work today. On the drive home I heard a couple of quick rattles and the suddenly the sound of something underneath filling off and grinding into the pavement. After quickly pulling over I discovered that my front license plate and it's bracket had fallen off and I had run over it, and dragged it. Rolled it and jammed between the chassis, exhaust, and pavement. It took a bit of work but I was able to pull the plate from under the car (so glad I had a pair of mechanic gloves in the trunk as everything underneath was HOT.) The Craig Custom Bracket, after years of being in the car, gave way. As you can see from the photos I lost a very hard to find SGT license plate frame. It doesn't appear there was any critical damage to the SGT, and not that I would expect any, but I'll inspect closer tomorrow. So, anyone have an SGT license plate from they want to part with? twobjshelbys
I'd bet the bracket could be straightened out, sanded and repainted. The license plate frame looks like a candidate for recycling
EL SHELBY
The bracket is the least of my concerns, but you are correct its salvageable. The plate and frame will become Art for the garage or office.
Larry T
Looks like a great part of the memory wall in the garage ... And another story for the books.
dh777
That happened to me years ago and I didn't even realize I lost my plate (thanks to our wonder roads in Houston). I never put it back on. I have toyed around with using my tow hook bracket many times but have never come up with a great solution.
EL SHELBY
Fortunately in Texas a front plate is only required if there are 'provisions' in the bumper for a plate. Or, at least this was the rule. It may have changed. I only installed the plate when I picked up some damage on the front bumper/stripe. I was using the plate to hide the damage. I'm looking at having my stripes either replaced or painted to address that issue. I just hate losing the SGT License Plate Frame, see as its no longer available. BIKEBOY
I bet you'll find one EL....... Someone has one out there. Just glad it didn't tear a hole in the fuel line under there!

That is the way it is in NV. When we bought our Honda I asked about the front plate and the guy said if they don't install the holder we don't need it. It's not even a "sports car". The holder is on a shelf in the garage. It's too bad they don't have a "one plate or two" option to save the money.

One on front, one rear. See Section 504.943 of Texas Statutes. There are a few exceptions where you can use one plate but that applies to specialty/antique/military vehicles. All modern passenger cars/trucks require two plates. Penalty for not doing so is a fine of up to $200.
EL SHELBY
Noted. Quick search shows the the fine was not added until 2013.
BIKEBOY
I'm originally from Az. They give you one plate if you get a std. issue tag. If you order personalized plates, you get two. Then I move to Jersey. You are "sposed" to have two. I NEVER run the front tag. The cops turn their heads, (thank God). Don't like the look, nor the holes in the front. I'll take the risk that some rookie duesche pulls me over some day. Not doing it.....
TheKurgan
I bought mine at Greenville Ford in Texas. Thankfully they had not drilled out the front and put a bracktet before I got to her, nor had they placed any dealer logos on the back.
JeffIsHereToo
Thankfully Arkansas is one plate but when living in two plate Illinois I just kept the second plate, on the quick removal bracket, in my trunk. I was pulled over 4 times in 5 years and each time acted surprised the plate wasn't there as if it had fallen off explaining the bracket and car events etc. Then I would exclaim something like "oh wait...may I look in the trunk? I just washed it yesterday and I'm hoping I just forgot to put it back on."....you can figure out the rest...but it worked EVERY time!
