The "Big Ass" Garage Light

Recommended Posts

Have any of you purchased the LED Big Ass Garage Light?

I've seen em as low as $399. They advertise 13,000 lumens. Removable trays to clean out bugs. Years and years of "run" time.....

I'm thinking of doing one in my new garage. The builder installed a ridiculous excuse for a garage light. My iPhone light is brighter!!!

Anyone?

Thanks. BB

EDIT- Go EZ on me moderators....this IS what they're called.

I don't have one but have seen in a few garages and I love them. I dont think you can go wrong with them when looking at purchasing a good quality light.

I have a problem figuring out the "value gap" of the Big Ass product. Even if, as some claim, the el-cheapo LED fluorescent replacements only last half as long, that's still a lot of replacements for the same price.

I went through the similar process when the ballast on the light in the laundry room. I looked at the LED versions, but I can replace three full fluorescent fixtures and tubes for the price of the LED. I won't be around that long.

Tony, that's not at all what is at stake here....

It comes down to lumens. The BA light has 13,000 lumens!!

I would post a YouBoob video if I was home, but if you see one lit in person you'd see the value. Or not.....

That BJ's light is no brighter than my BIC fireplace lighter!!! :hysterical:

Ok smart ass, the $400 one is 13000 lumens but uses 120 watts!

The $33 one is 4500 lumens (which is plenty bright) and only uses 40 watts.

And

in Lumens/$: 13000/400 = 32.5, 4500/33 = 13.63

In Lumens/watt: 13000/120 = 108.3, 4500/40 = 112.5

So, the lumens/watt is about the same, and you'd need roughly 3 of the cheaper ones to get the same lumens. But the distribution of the light from the three fixtures in a lower ceiling wins. But for total price, 3 of the cheaper fixtures is about $100 vs 400 so I know what I would do.

Check my math, I've had a few cocktails :) and trying to pay attention to a TV show.

I do like their fans though. We have a big room with a 2 story ceiling and I'm thinking of putting one in there.

Math looks good to me,Tony. The big ass costs 3X more! :hysterical:

Great job on the multitasking!

I put flood lights in the fixtures in my garage, and they do a much better job than the 60 watt bulbs that were there. 3 car garage, 1 light per bay. If I need anymore, I can fire up the halogen work lights, got 3 of those on a stand. They come in handy in the winter if I have to do anything out there, cuz they warm the place up.

We have a few of their Industral fans at work for 8 years and been great. I like the fact the home ones work with NEST

  • 4 weeks later...

My new light comes today. I passed on the "Big A$$ Light".

Ordered a multi LED (250 watt) 11,600 lumens from a company called Shine Retrofits in Colorado.

$179. A good compromise between the Big Ass and Sefordo's BIC lighter.

:hysterical:

I'll report on how it works. And Bearbo......if I can just land Cessnas......I'll be happy!
