captdave
RM Sotheby’s celebrates this national treasure at its Monterey auction in August. HARALD KELLEY
This is a sad news. It really belongs at SA at the Heritage Center/museum. It will never be the same. As I stated in another thread, if Carroll Shelby was alive I do not think this would be happening. If SA is struggling then sell the assets and there are others that could go before CSX 2000 in my opinion. It really is a shame the TS gets no more news prior to things that can be shared going public. I am shocked! The auction is in my back yard and I will b e there. ageishecker
Wow. I didn't think that car would ever be for sale. Does this signal the end of SAI?

David Hawkins
Didn't Carroll turn down $20 Million for it once?

ilmor
Not uncommon...family members who don't care so much about things sell them to get money for other reasons. Sort of like when farms and racetracks eventually get sold off to become subdivisions and malls.
05mustangman
unbelievable. Carroll would be so pissed. Like H0050 said, if he was alive, this car would not be going up for sale. SA evidently has no problem selling off their one true piece of history. Very sad.
ChicagoChris
Holy smokes! I never thought I'd see the day this car wasn't owned by SAI or a Shelby family member. Sad.

OK, from John Luft and others, SAI does NOT have control of this Car, it is the Shelby Trustee's that have control of it and THEY are the ones selling it. 05mustangman
So if that is the case, the cobra will be sold and Shelby American will be have lost their most important piece of history and will get absolutely nothing for it? This seems like a huge loss for SA.
Don Johnston
It is true that it is the property of the CHS Trust, not SA. Years ago, it was said that it would be on rotating display between the Heritage Center and the proposed Shelby Museum in Gardena. Both entities have had financial challenges for some time. The Heritage Center has been selling off a large number of factory prototype products for the past year. But the work shop and visitor center and gift shop always seem busy and there is still a lot to see and to learn on the tours. CS said many years ago that he wouldn't even take $25 mil for the car. It will be interesting to see what numbers the CSX2000 and CSX 3178 bring. This will probably be one of the largest viewing audiences to the Monterey auction ever. mikeljgt500kr
I am very interested to see if it really sells. No telling what astronomical reserve they have on CSX2000, but man, talk about the rarest of the rare and most iconic of the iconic. If I had all the money in the world, I would want that car #1. Morgan19d
It doesn't belong to SAI but to the Carroll Shelby Trust, but aren't Joe Conway and Neil Cummings the Trustees AND the CEO's of SAI and CSI?
Don Johnston
Better get to LV and view the Heritage Collection because after Monterey, there is no telling if it will be on public view for free, if at all.

ShelbyKR664
If they do sell, I just hope they stay on American soil. No doubt this will get world wide attention and the thought of these cars going abroad makes me sick. I will be a lottery player for sure the next few weeks! 08KR525
Frequent turnover of management, employee layoffs and now this. Doesn't instill much confidence in Shelby's stability. Oh I forgot to mention placing many "restricted" items on EBay. Hopefully everything will work out.
08KR525
It'd be a damn shame if Richard Rawlings gets ahold of it and "restores" it before taking it to BJ for his Gas Monkey series.

Doug_GT350
OMG- I did not think of that. Are you saying, that it would not look good Flat Black with a big Chrome Vinyl Gas Monkey Logo covering the whole front, Air Bag Suspension and a new 5.0 Crate Motor? David Hawkins
Fortunately, I don't think any of them have the funds to pull that off! If the Gas Monkey Producers really wanted to see a HUGE jump in Ratings, buying this Car for Gas Monkey to modify would do just that. If Richard and his Producers had any Brains, they would send Gas Monkey to that Auction with a Car to sell and film Richard bidding on the Cobra, that will gain some Ratings for that Show. The Producers could even have the two Dimwits that spun off with their own Show there Bidding against Richard. Possibly even send Chumlee there to represent the Pawn Star Gang. Oh man, I can see it now......I need to send the Producer an Email.
Denstang65
This is one auction I will not ever watch! Very sad. I never got to meet him, but the Cobra job #1 was the next closes thing to meeting Carroll himself. With it gone, the Magical Spirit of Carroll Shelby will be gone To Carroll, if you are looking down and can hear me, I am so sorry. At least I still have my 65 tribute to honor your heritage sir. I ask that all of you out there, cherish the name that resides on your vehicles, cherish them and drive them for Carroll! Thank you Carroll Shelby
