2009 GT500 - Buy or Pass on this one?

Considering purchase of 2009 GT500. Black with tungsten stripe. Car is in excellent condition inside and out. 15,000 miles

Being sold by BMW dealer - it was sent to nearby Ford dealership for airbag recall fix. While it was there, I paid for the Ford dealer to do a "pre-sale" inspection on the car. The only items they noted were 1) front tires are unevenly worn and need alignment 2) minor oil seep noted "that will need to be addressed in the future". The mechanic said that the seep is "very minor and nothing to worry about" - but the fact that he noted it concerns me. He thinks it is coming from the valve cover and oil pan. I live 60 miles away from the dealership, so I was not there to see the inspection.

Carfax says clutch was replaced/upgraded in April 2016.

They are asking $29,800 for the car. Should I purchase or am I looking at trouble with the oil issue? Please reply as soon as possible as I need to fish or cut bait on this in the next day or two.

Thank you!

Be very careful with any purchasing advice you receive on internet forums. Current owners and enthusiasts of a certain breed tend to have inflated and in some cases irrational notions of what these cars are worth. A potential buyer can make a huge mistake if these mythical values are incorporated into ones frame of reference. Think in terms of the realities of the business world and not the emotional fantasy land of some current owners.

A BMW dealer is going to be looking to flip this car in short order and would not be in it for more than 25K on a dump out or trade. Start your offer at that level and keep in mind that you can always go up. NEVER, EVER, as some here have advised, pay a dealer asking for a used car. They leave a very healthy buffer above what they hope to get the car. Offer 25K politely with the understanding that you are interested in the car but not at their initial asking price and make sure they have your contact #s. Do not allow yourself to be dragged into one of those god awful closing rooms or fall for any of the grease ball high pressure tactics that car dealers artfully employ. Your remaining negotiations with them should only be by phone where you have the advantage from that point on. Walk even if they counter with a price you like, you got em at that point and can only do better. Your phone will ring and likely before the end of the day.

Hate to say exactly how much I paid for the car, as I have a few friends who frequent this site, and they don't need to know all the gory details of my purchase (that and the fact that I suck at negotiating!) When I first saw the ad online, the price was over $32,000, and I bought it for just over $29,000. So the reduction was not as dramatic as Munjo WISELY suggested it may be - but the price was to the point where I bought the car well under book value - and I feel very good about the deal. I lost some of my leverage because on my initial trip to see the car, I witnessed two other customers walk in and inquire about the car. Because the air bag was being replaced and I was first in line for a test drive, the others were told it had "apparently been sold". Now either that was an elaborate charade on the part of the dealer's sales staff, or there were at least a handful of other buyers willing to bid against me if I waited too long. Anyway, here are a few pics:

Congrats and welcome to the Shelby family.

If you can afford it, and you love your purchase, price then is irrelevant.

Now go out there and start tossing that car sideways ;-)

Motor on!

Congratulations on your purchase.

It really doesn't matter what you pay for it as long as your happy with your purchase.

Some may say I paid too much for my car but it was exactly what I was looking for, it was local and at a consigning dealer that I had a relationship with. To me, things like that are worth a grand or two.

IMO these car are under valued, I recently sold an air cooled Porsche 911 for well into 6 figures and I have more fun with my Shelby. Just trying to put things into perspective and not get hung up on what you pay for it.
