ckent
I want to do an interior upgrade on my 2010 Shelby. What is the difference between the Alcantara leather and regular leather. Which one is better.
William Rodgers
I prefer regular, the Alcantara is the fake looking suede stuff. It is made out of mostly cheap polyester, how some car manufacturers consider it an upgrade over Real leather is beyond me. Everyone likes different stuff, thats just my 2 cents. CARiD
Alcantara is composed of about 68% polyester and 32% polyurethane, giving increased durability and stain resistance. The appearance and tactile feel of the material is similar to that of suede, and not really related to real leather, although it looks nice in a combination with it. You can check how does it look in comparison with real leather here. Of course it's not everyone's cup of team, but in my opinion alcantara looks pretty good on a dash. Alcantara is commonly used for race track cars on the seats and steering wheels, just to add more grip.
