Anyone Buy The Lighted Door Sill Plates? Plug and Play??

I am interested in buying the above. I went to the instruction web page, and was shocked at what is required to install these pieces. Since the GT500 is already wired for these, I was under the impression, it would be ZERO wiring, and just a plug and play set up. Am I correct, and the instructions they recommend are incorrect?

Instructions: http://mustangforums.com/forum/2005-2014-mustangs/575962-lighted-door-sills-long-and-informative-install-with-pics.html

Thanks!

Those "linked" instructions are for cars before Ford offered lighted sill plates. If your Mustang is of a newer model the installation is much easier as you do not have to go digging thru the interior to attach the wire.

I do not recall if any of these accessory sill plates come equipped with a Ford wiring connector that truly makes them plug n play, I believe the come with the 3m scotch lok connectors. You may want to call the Shelby Store to see if my recollection is correct.

Again if your car came with the lighted sill plates then installation is much easier/quicker. Either way they are pretty cool.

Mine is red, but I think it can be changed...I just never tried.

Great, as I would like red. The Store's photos all show blue, but if yours are red then they must be able to be changed like the other interior lights? Thank you for your reply.

Maybe someone could confirm that the lit part of the lighted door sill plate can be changed like the other interior lights, please? Just would want to know for sure before ordering, thank you.

On the early cars you select the light color when you wire them up by using a wire tap on a certain wire for the color you want, I am not sure about the newer cars.

You really should give the Shelby Store a phone call with these questions so that you have the most up to date answers as manufacturers make changes to their products all the time. What I'm recalling from several years back may have changed.

To my knowledge the door sill plate can only be changed to red, blue, or green. There's a TS member who said there's a wire harness that allows you to manually swap the connector to a different color. This is completely different from the gauge and cup holder colors

SVT can be changed to blue or green. See my previous post

Kawwy600 your right. It can be changed from the red to blue or green. I did it a few years back now but all it requires is to take off the sill plate and locate the wires underneath. I believe there is about 4 slots and only 2 are occupied. which would be ground and then the power for whatever color. All I did was take out the power for the red light and moved the wire over to another slots and it activated the blue light. I remember it being pretty straightforward but it has been awhile since I've done it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I installed these on my 14.

There is a write-up on svtperf.com on how you can swap the wires for the three colors. Factory, mine were red. I switched them to blue.

FYI, I didn't want my name so I had them put the build date from my certificate.
