Who is the fool…..

Recently I met a guy who “has a confirmed order for a Shelby”. He was first in line at this dealer and said he placed an order and a down payment at this dealer 16 months ago. The dealer told him “I won’t rake you coals over to much; I have to mark up the car to cover the cost of sending a guy to Las Vegas for a week to be trained by Carroll Shelby. I had to send one of my top mechanics out there week just to get some cars.” He also said the dealer had to join the Shelby Car Club of America with cost $1500 bucks a year. I ask him about the car color and he said he could not chose one and all first run cars are promised for “special people like movie stars”. Is any of this accurate? Also my local dealer can not place an order for Shelby yet and said it’s too early to do anything.

Am I missing something, what’s going on…..? :shift:

Sounds like a bunch of BS to me, especially all the "Sending guys to Vegas" stuff. The certification is $1,500 and the tests for the sales guy and mechanic are online.

And that is the same thing that the real honest dealers are doing as well. If some dealer takes your 5 or 10K deposit now and telling people they have an order they are full of shit. People think car dealers are on the up and up and wouldnt dare lie to them, those are the suckers PT Barnum spoke of.

Not everyone who claims to have an order in is full of sh**. Some people have VIN numbers assigned and build dates. These people are not blowing smoke. People who only have a VOC or DORA don't have anything guaranteed, but once a vin and build date are in place then they are hardly the people PT Barnum spoke of.

99.9% of the time- BUT-

last fall there was a fella on blueoval whos vinned order got cancelled(?), I suggested he have Kzinti run the VIN- sure enough it was built on time and sold thru another dealer. Dealer traded a confirmed/sold car...I sent the guy some email addresses, suggested he bring ford down on them hard- dunno what ever came of his order though- hopefully he eventually got a car. If you can find a trustworthy dealer, consider yourself lucky- they are out there(and in here) but are getting harder to find everyday.

The only statement the dealer made to you that has a modicum of truth to it is that the first 12 cars are indeed going to V.I.P.'S, but 12 cars is not the entire first run.

Man I hope that guy unleashed all sorts of fury on them for that. It sure would be nice to know what came out of it.

Think you might find him bumping around on here, and if it's the person I think it is he is very satisfied.
