added the black plastic lower grill

Recommended Posts

for those of you that like this lower grille, It is available from Silver Horse Racing. below is a copy of what I sent a1machinista in a previous thread.

you can still purchase a lower grill that fits the 2007/2008 Shelby GT/California Special Front Fascia. It is Black Plastic and has "Honey Comb" that somewhat matches the black plastic honeycomb pieces on each side of the lower grill. It doesn't match the Shelby Upper Billet Grill but its better than nothing because it helps protect your condenser fins/tubes. It is $89.00 and available through Silver Horse Racing.com. The Part is #S197-200-CS. I would suggest this solution until you can find a matching Shelby Billet Grill. Good Luck finding a Shelby Billet Grill though. They were discontinued over 2 years ago and I haven't seen one on Ebay in well over a year.

ps: If I were you I would spend the $89.00. I had a quote on replacing my condenser a couple of years ago and it was almost $600 parts and labor.

O7SGT4843, you are welcome, always glad to help a fellow SGT owner. The SHR grill a1machinista used must have been a stock part for SHR because I posted that info previously only a week or so ago. He evidently ordered it and got it pretty quick.

ChicagChris, I don't know if holes have to be drilled for the SHR Lower Grill, perhaps a1machinista will enlighten us on his install technique and if he had to drill any holes for this SHR Lower Grille.

When I installed the Shelby Billet Lower Grill a few years ago I did have to drill 4 small holes to attach the Shelby Billet Lower Grill. Its was a pretty easy mod.

The quality was okay I think $89 is a little overpriced all you have to do is push in the tabs on the side lower grille pieces push them out about a quarter inch and this piece slides right in and the two existing side grills cover the fins to hold it into place.. about 5 minutes after I figured out how to push the site grills out

The original SPP Shelby GT Lower Billet Grill if I recall correctly was about $99 retail and was on sale at times for $79.00 before SPP discontinued them a couple of years ago. I bought my first one around August 2010 and bought a spare about a year later....and no, my spare lower billet grill is not for sale.

I have not seen an original Shelby Lower Grill on Ebay for well over a year, maybe 2 years. The last time I saw one on Ebay it sold for over $200.00. With the way SGT engine caps and SGT license plate frame prices have gone up recently, then I imagine that if an original Shelby Billet Grill comes up for sale it will not be cheap.

I added the same to my car years ago. Snaps in place once you move the side pieces out. I was looking to have the added protection of the grill and should have minimal effect on airflow. The company that sells it has sales on a regular basis. - Kevin

Here's a link... http://www.silverhorseracing.com/2007-2009-mustang-shr-california-special-shelby-gt-lower-grill.html

I'm wondering how this might look on mine, since I have the Shelby brake duct system.

GTH391, .Like I said in post#15 above. I have not seen an original Shelby Lower Grill on Ebay for well over a year, maybe 2 years. The last time I saw one on Ebay it sold for over $200.00. I search ebay often for various Shelby items. Not telling you what to sell it for, just sayin the last one I saw was the price I mentioned here. Hope you and a1 machinist can work out what you both feel is a win-win deal.

I installed the same grille on my 08 SGT .There is no drilling, just remove the trim on both sides and the new grille tucks behind the trim. I installed some bug screen (from a house window ) around mine to try to catch all the bugs...
