Took the new Cobra to Cars and Coffee this AM

After 12 years passed since I had my old Cobra, I picked up a Backdraft Cobra last week. Met up with a friend who also has a Cobra this AM to go to our local Cars and Coffee in Charlotte. I have taken the GT500 there several times over the past few years and it gets some attention, but nothing could prepare me for the reaction from the crowd today. As we rolled in, the guys from Foreign Cars Italia who always bring their collection of Ferraris, McLarens, Aston Martins, Lambroghinis, etc were parked at their normal spot just off the main entrance to the lot where hundreds of people were standing and drooling over the European eye candy. ALL eyes turned as Guy and myself slowly rumbled into the lot. The 427 was thundering at idle and the big cam loping while Guy's 351 was also making an impressive sound. People were moving towards our cars as we parked across from the Foreign Cars display and by the time I cut the ignition, we were surrounded by a ton of people with Prancing Horse logos on their shirts along with other Euro manufacturers who were previously on the other row. There were plenty of other GT500's rolling in from 2007 - 2014... All of which barely got noticed at all. Same thing with the new Corvettes, new 2015 Mustangs, Camaros, Porsches, and whatever came in afterwards. The crowd loved the Cobras.

Later when we were getting ready to leave, we had to clear a path to get to our Cobras. People were taking video and photos like we were famous or something. Kinda weird to get that much attention, but it was all due to RESPECT for the Cobra. We exited the lot and thundered away..... Grinning from ear to ear.

Cobras are always popular. I have taken CSX 7972 to 4 of the first 9 Cars and Coffee in our area. There are usually some vintage Ferraris (early '60s) at ours and people really like seeing them together. I usually wear my Shelby Cobra T-Shirt with CS's famous words "Ferrari's Ass Is Mine" emblazoned on the front. That always brings some smiles from everyone.

I've been trying to figure out how to post a photo and my settings just won't allow me to do it. Tried uploading a photo into my gallery and it gives me an error message. Oh well....

Awesome Viper! Looks great! Enjoy! I sometimes get that kind of reaction with my 65 GT350 tribute. From having my stickers ; CS director of fun, Terlingua, CS memorial, to having faded paint showing and having Carroll's signature on my glove box, seems a lot of people love it. Evan when people find out its a clone, they still love it. I get exposed to this a lot every day because its my DD! Nothing but smiles!

Thanks all. I always said when I sold the last Cobra that it would only be a matter of time before I got another one of which would have to be a Backdraft car. It has exceeded all my expectations and I would highly recommend anyone who is in the market to get in touch with Frank Dodd and Craig Harper at Backdraft. The car was built start to finish and shipped in 8 days from the day I made the order.

Love the story- being 6'2" I have always wondered how I'd fit in a backdraft or superformance.

Love the grey color too!!

I'm 6'3"... or at least I used to be. Probably closer to 6'2". Plenty of room inside the Backdraft car although when I'm cruising on a long stretch of road or highway, I will put my left foot behind the clutch so I can straighten my leg. Fit and finish inside the Backdraft car is excellent.

Great story Viper and congrats!! I've always wanted a Cobra - One day!!! and your color combination is one of my favorites... Keep that wild snake "Between the Lines"!!

And one day soon you will have your Cobra.

First Cobra I had was a Classic Roadsters car. Compared to the Backdraft or Superformance products I would say it was not in the same class, but also not nearly as expensive. I got a good deal on that car so I bought it sight unseen. A little spooky yet it turned out to be a nice little Cobra with a Paxton supercharged 302. I made a few mistakes driving the first Cobra (always said that car really taught me how to drive) and it also provided me with info about what my next Cobra would have on the build sheet.... specifically an IRS and 427 with a better chassis, suspension and brakes. Any time I got near the throttle on the Classic Roadsters car it tried to kill me as the rear end was tail happy. The Backdraft car is far more planted and the handling is exceptional in comparison.
