39Mustang
I actually just read this on another site and yes I know its July and double-checked the date to make sure it wasn't a late April Fools joke It said 'Rumor has Ford for the next GT500 in 2017/18 using a twin turbo V6', umm I'm not sure I can even comment and keep it rated PG! GT500 is suppose to be the King the top of the Mustang food chain and I don't care if they plan to use the same engine in the new Ford GT its still a 6-banger and has NO business being attached to the GT500 name plate! Lets check some GT500 facts, one 427, 428CJ, 5.4, and 5.8 yea umm don't see any V6's anywhere in the history of the GT500! I guarantee Carroll Shelby would never go for a 6-banger in a GT500 no matter the horsepower. I predicted Ford would start force feeding this eco-boost crap down our throats and if they ever replaced the V8 Mustang with only a V8 thousands of buyers would go buy a Challenger or something else as the Camaro is too ugly. Ford thinks the 2017 Raptor will be a huge success yet on the Raptor Forums 99 percent of current Raptor owners said they would not buy it without a V8 so imagine trying to pull off this crap with the GT500! I bet you take a poll on here to every current GT500 owner and ask them would you buy a new GT500 with a V6 and I can't even see 1 person saying yes c'mon Ford stop with this nonsense
svtkeith
I know I wouldn't have a V6 GT500 period!!...even mentioning V6 and GT500 in the same sentence don't work.
shel-b001
Flat crank V8 for me thanks.

William Rodgers
I doubt they will call it a GT500 if they put a V6 TT in the Mustang, but if it is superior performance I can care less if it is a V8 or a V6. Would you rather have the Buick Regal with the V8 or the GNX with the V6? I like the sound of the V8, that would be the piece I would miss the most, other then that bring on the V6. Save a ton of weight, get better gas mileage, and if Audi, BMW, and Porsche are any indication it will be faster and handle MUCH better as well. I think after it does all of that better I will be OK with the Exhaust sound difference. I do agree it shouldn't be called a GT500 though. How about an SVO??? As far as Raptor owners saying they will never buy the New Raptor with the 6 that happens for every car that changes, people always say theirs is better. They stop saying that when they finally buy the Newer model pretty quickly though..... Edited July 9, 2015 by carnut12
ViperNC
I would have the Ecoboost V6 as a GT500.... or even better as the Ford GT! I think your opinions are not 100% shared by others as you might think.

2010KonaBlueGT
It said 'Rumor has Ford for the next GT500 in 2017/18 using a twin turbo V6', umm I'm not sure I can even comment and keep it rated PG! <SNIP> c'mon Ford stop with this nonsense First, the rumor also says it's the same engine being used in the Ford GT, just like it was when they brought out the FGT and the subsequent GT500 before. Fact is, there won't be a V-8 available in ANY form pretty soon so if you don't want a V-6, you'll be SOL and driving 4 bangers for the rest of your life. And it's not just Ford. That'll be across the board. Personally, I'd almost be willing to put a few bucks on a wager saying you won't see a future GT500 from Ford either. FoMoCo has already said that but the blogs and online sideline QB's are the ones who keep saying that. We shall see, Phill

1 Alibi 2
I hear nothing from Ford about a " next " or " future " GT500.... Once Ford says they will build one, then I'll pay attention to what motor they put in it. . In the meantime, enjoy what you're driving & in the fact you were smart enough to buy it when it was available.
08KR525
"IF" the next GT50O is going to be a six cylinder I hope that Ford decides not to use the GT500 name. It's sorta like when Ford was planning on the Probe to be the next Mustang IMO.

David Hawkins
I agree Ford should do a twin turbo V6 and SVO would be a good name for it just like back in the day. SVO was a 4 Cyl. and they have a Turbo 4 which would be a great base to switch to a bigger Turbo with Intercooler.

mikeljgt500kr
Not true...corvettes came with 6-bangers before. check 1953-1955. Right, before Chevy had a V8 and before they approved Duntov's V8 for 1955.
Larry T
They might call it the Eco500 ... but it won't be the GT500.

I'm aware the SVO was a 4 banger but I think the v6 twin turbo would do well in an SVO Mustang and would perform pretty good IMO.

DubbsFaris
The first engines were steam. We should just go back to that I guess and check performance and power at the door since that clearly isnt what anyone is interested in. The new Raptor is lighter, has more HP and nearly twice the MPG as its predecessor? Sweet! V6?! Oh, then never mind. Id rather drive a slower heavier version that costs me twice as much in gas because it has a "V8". The Ford GT will be the best power to weight ratio supercar ever built?! Sweet! V6?! Oh, then nevermind. Id rather Ford not build it because winning races and being competitive in today's divisions which require a V6. If they built in a V8 though, slower, heavier, unable to race or win in any class? Sign me up! I can go on... On the devil's advocate side of this- Building a new GT500 at the same time they produce a GT350 (they didnt develop this car for a two year build) seems like a really really dumb thing to do. Add to that- there are over 75k GT500s on the street already, and also add that Ford has other labels long retired they could bring back makes me think a new Mach 1, King Cobra, Terminator, etc. have a much better marketable name that would appeal to an audience that isnt already saturated with a surplus of choices. Just my opinion though... But yeah, by all means, go buy a Hellcat or a Viper or a Vette. Dodge and GM are ALWAYS leading their prospective markets in plastic crap cars.
