MTYQIN
Adding Long Tubes, 10% OD pulley and Gates Blue belt. Had a buddy tell me he experienced belt slip with a Gates Blue @ 5k rpm. I know the Gates Green is the standard of excellence, but wanted to go with blue for the look in the engine bay. Anybody got experience with the Gates Blue Belt? Don't want to put it on if Green is the bottom line for getting it right. Any insight is very much appreciated. Quinn
54First
The Gates green belt's intended purpose is as a high mileage belt for commercial fleets. The blue is a racing belt. I had greens on and took them off. They seemed too stiff for decent pulley wrap. That's just my opinion and I may be the only one. I went to a standard Gates black. MTYQIN
Steve, Thanks for the insight. Hadn't considered that aspect of the equation. Clearly I need to look into this a bit deeper. Quinn
patrickshelby
Have a green one since mid 2013 and it works great on my TVS. It feels stiff, I agree. At the time, no blue was available.Blue would look better. Green is not really suited to our cars... :-)
msb64
I ran the green belt for a few years myself with no issues, but found out it was designed more for a HD fleet application as 54First has already stated. After reading up on the new blue belt, decided it was the way to go for me. http://www.svtperformance.com/?p=2773 Pretty sure that Revan Racing & Gates know their stuff. Make sure to check that your tensioner is working properly.
Kevin Patten
I've been using the Gates Racing "blue" belt for the last year + in our race cars. They work great and show no signs of slippage and/or excessive wear.
MTYQIN
Thanks to you guys who took the time to give me some feedback on the Blue belt in real world settings. Feel better about it again. Best, Quinn
Larry T
Does anyone know of any green or blue belt alternatives for a blown 4.6??
msb64
The blue belt looks pretty sharp too, besides performance it definitely has some car show appeal to it. Liked it so much that I also ordered a blue accessory belt from VMP.
The Chairman
I too ordered the Gates Blue blower belt and the accessory drive belt from VMP. There is a 5% discount code for purchases at VMP Tuning: VMPROCKS2 Every bit helps!
zachbohn
I have blue belt on my 2.8 KB, very happy. Bought it from Revan racing.
Jason Silva
Looks like the Blue is no longer available, they are now Black. The Green is still there.
