Hello all,

Just purchased a '14 GT500 (very excited) and I'm planning to send it to Shelby America to have them transform it into a Super Snake. For those who have done this I'm curious, if you had to do it over again, is there anything you'd do differently, add/delete, etc? Just looking to do a little crowd sourcing before finalizing my order. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I just did mine last winter and am glad I did it. Fit and finish is outstanding. It was a first class job. Mine is a'12. I am glad I did the Eibach suspension and the watts link. I was undecieded on both till the last minute but it really improved the handling and the looks of the car( it lowered the car 1/2 to 3/4 inch). The sales guys and production guys were all great to work with. When I got the car back and put about 1,000 miles on it I had an issue withthe tune. Both the guys at Shelby and Kenne Bell were OUTSTANDING in getting the tune diagnosed and fixed. For me that was a big deal because I am 2000 miles away. They did a great job standing behind their work. Yes I would do it again and build it the same way.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated and exactly what I like to hear. I'm especially glad to hear about the resolution to your issues when you live far away from Shelby...not that I doubt at all they'd take care of it but still a refreshing anecdote. I'm still debating lowering the car further but its definitely on the table, especially after hearing your impression of it.

Some pics of the new car attached, I'll add more after Shelby finishes their work (not sure how long that takes).

Cheers.

Beautiful color scheme. Not super common......right up MY alley.

Where YA at in the northeast ?

I'm in central Jersey myself.

Thanks bud. I live in DC. Hopefully there will be some regional events this spring so I can get out and meet others here and enjoy our cars.

To answer your question on how long it will take.

All I can say is be patient, very, very patient...

Haha yeah I'm realistic about the timeline so no drama. As I live in DC and they sand the hell out of the roads here at the mere mention of snow, I really don't need to get the car back until April/May...I'll drive my pickup until then anyway.

Thanks!

Patience means something different to each of us. Considering you emphasize the patience part are we talking 2 months, 6 months??? Just curious.

OP - are you getting the wide-body kit?

No, not getting the wide-body kit...my military dime only goes so far lol.

Good luck with the conversion, it will be worth the wait. I'm on my second GT500 now and may go for an SS in a few years myself, but until then I'll enjoy the KR.

You're a brave man to have a SS in the DC area.. I'm a former Virginian myself and don't miss that hellish traffic one bit. Or those taxes. :)

AK.

Thanks, and yes VA taxes do suck. BTW your car is gorgeous, well played.

Take off anything and everything you can before shipment….The mod shops keep it all for resale which you have paid for; sell or keep is your option.

This is an excellent point and one I've dwelled on. What can I reasonably take off without anyone crying foul? I don't wish to be intransigent in this process however the fact that, as you point out, I've already paid for the original parts and I'm paying a fair amount for the transformation as well makes this aspect of the arrangement seem very skewed against my favor.

My GT500 only has 40 miles on it...seems a waste to give away brand new components. Any inputs as to what I can reasonably remove are much appreciated.

Thanks.

UGM,

I would suggest that you discuss with the SAI sales department the removal of stock parts before sending in your GT500 to be Super Snaked as I suspect they will have a different opinion on doing that. One of several reasons for SAI retaining take off parts is so that the MSRP of the SS package can be kept as low as possible.

If that's the case then that makes sense. Thanks for the input, I'll be sure to discuss with my sales rep. Again, not trying to be intransigent here. Thanks.

Just trying to prevent any surprises on either end and if there is a certain part you definitely want back perhaps the sales department can work something out.

I would also like to add that in my opinion the resale value of take-off parts isn't that much. Just look at how many GT500 hoods, wheels and superchargers are always for sale on Craiglist and eBay but get no takers.

I have the all black seats, I had the headers added to our package just to be a little different. We are flying down this Wed. to see the near completion. The car should dyno 770-785 ATW.will see when we get their.

The Watts link I feel is going to be well worth it in additional stabilization. Hope any of this helps.

Thanks, Bill. I'm hearing good things about the Watts link so I'm adding it as well. Enjoy your trip to Vegas...I plan to stop in and see mine once they get working on it.
