WV2008
All, As part of my winter maintenance process I want to change the ATF fluid in my 2008 's transmission. The car shifts ok, but it is a little notchy. I was thinking of switching to Mobil 1 ATF but wondered if anyone had first hand experience with switching to Mobil 1 and what impact did it have on the quality of the shift feel. Thanks you, Dan
07SGT2899
It helps a little but when I switched to royal purple synchromax I noticed a big difference especially when the trans is cold. Much smoother operation
msb64
I went for the Royal Purple on my 2008 myself and it does work much better than the oem Ford fluid. As stated above, it makes a huge difference when the transmission is cold. My Ford dealer TSB (clutch/trans) performed also spec'd out a different fluid, in my case that was Dexron 3. I could not detect a performance difference between the Dexron 3 and Royal Purple myself, I just made the change to ensure the transmission had no contaminates after rebuilding. I have noticed that a few pro builders on this site have also recommended the Royal Purple. Get yourself a fluid pump that screws on top of the bottles to make filling the transmission easier. Make sure that you do not overfill the transmission, check your manual for the exact amount required.
Grabber
My wife and I both run the royal purple in our cars. It's the best and it makes the shifting pretty transparent. Our trannys take 3.65 QTS. Edited November 2, 2014 by Grabber

FYI you can't overfill it, the drain/fill plug height on the side of the transmission is set at 3.65 quarts, any more and it will drain out of the plug hole which makes it easy to fill. blackcad55
Thank you Secondo.....that makes it very easy to refill with my old pump gun knowing that you refill til it flows out the hole (just like the old Muncies I'm used to working on). We appreciate that kind of helpful information. -Greg
Dave1968
Your Mercon 5 (V) , Dex 3 and dodge ATF+4 are all the same old conventional ATF that goes into this tranny depending on who's vehicle it is. Use the Amsoil Signature series full synthetic multivehicle ATF - that is the best. I put it in my Viper and Shelby, the trannys shift much nicer and that oil will protect it no matter how hard you are on it.
