gc12
Very recently on my 2008 KR I've noticed a very strange impression in gearshift operation. Changing gears now seems "rubbery" for lack of a better word and this in any gear when upshifting as well as downshifting. Obviously not clutch related. Does anyone has any ideas of what could cause this?
msb64
Get the car on a hoist or jack stands and check the rear poly shifter mount. That is one of the places that could allow slack in the assembly which might be what you describe. The other place to check might be the shifter arm to shifter connection, just under the shifter boot.
sheppd01
I had this happen on my 2009 when it only had 2,000 miles on it. It got so bad that when leaving a car show I no longer could find 1st or 2nd and I was an hour away from home. It was an easy fix. Lift up the leather cover on the shifter and check the two bolts that connect the stick to the transmission. Mine were extremely loose. I tighten them and the problem was solved. Hope that's your problem too. Edited September 29, 2014 by sheppd01
shelbypt
Yep, those bolts were loose on a lot of KRs for some reason. That's what I would check first!!!

mavisky
I want to say the stock bolts are 13mm on my car, but it may not be the same for KR's.
sheppd01
13mm sounds right to me.
07SGT2899
If a KR has a Hurst like an SGT in pretty sure they are 9/16. The were loose on my SGT too which cause the same sloppy feel you are describing

Doug_GT350
I guess in a pinch you could always use a metric adjustable.......
MY500SS
Same thing on the SS and the 40th. Seems these shift levers come loose now and again.
UKGT500
Here's a pic of my Hurst bar and Shelby ball compared to stock bar with aftermarket ball on right. Rubber boot and bracket at right are all stock and not used with the Hurst. gear1 by malc350, on Flickr

2008GT-C
For those who feel any shifter dificulties. Please look after it pronto. I had a bolt come loose on my shifter this year in my Hurst equipped SGT. It fell out somewhere on RT 66 and took the bushings and bolt sleeve with it. This bolt mounts the shifter to the transmission. You 6-speed guys have two. These bolts are $20 a piece from Ford. The urethane bushings from Hurst were $25.The bolt sleeve is unavailable from Ford separately it comes with the factory shifter. My bolt was a 10mm best accessed from a lift. The bolt or bolts are at the top of the transmission tunnel. - Kevin
