The 17th annual Coronado Speed Festival (CSF) occurred this past weekend at Naval Air Station North Island (Coronado, CA), the birth place of Naval Aviation. This year the marquee was the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang and featured a 50th Anniversary Mustang Car Corral and a Mustang Parade Lap that had over 50 Mustangs. Former Trans Am driver driver George Follmer served as the Grand Marshall of the event. The CSF is part of Fleet Week, an event that honors the service and dedication of the members of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard which is open to the public. The CSF featured over 250 vintage race cars in nine classes of vintage racing over a two day period. In addition to the vintage racing, there were car shows, ship tours on the USS Nimitz and two other war ships, an exhibition by Robbie Gordon's SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road Series, a freestyle sportbike show, aircraft flyovers and military Pit Crew Challenge in a full NASCAR style pit stop and static military displays.
