Rear Spoiler Damage

Recommended Posts

You may want to have a look at your the rear spoiler of your Shelby , I noticed this a few minutes ago, and it doesn’t look good ....will take in Monday to dealer to have replaced. And maybe something may be done to adjust it before this will happen to someone else….I must be driving too fast....It seems like its screwed on from inside the trunk, but looking at closely , it seems to be letting go ....from the spoiler and the trunk lid....

According to the shop manual, it is both taped and bolted. The bolts are at the exact same location as regular mustnag GTs. The center section has a strip of double sided tape length-wise at the leading and trailing edges. And the ends, where yours is lifting, have tape runing front-to-back

You would think, however, that the bolts would keep the spoiler from shifting and the tape from lifting up. It seems that in this case the spoiler has shifted back which seems to indicate either a blunt force pushed it back, or somone (thinking it's glued on like the spoilers on the Mercedes C class; and others for that matter) tried to pull it off and only managed to slip the bolts a bit. Still, I don't think it's speed as I've had numerouse 100+ mph runs with no damage like this at all.

There has been nothing that hit it that I know of.... I don't leave the car outside anywhere that I can't see it, and its parked in my garage covered .....and this only was noticed today......I ve only drove this car to 230km once ....don't know how it could have been hit , there are no marks anywhere on the spoiler ........or trunk lid.......it has to be stress on the spoiler...from somthing , the spoiler has not shifted back it seems to have lifted in front starting to let go from the top of the lid.........will see next week what ford says when i take it in to the dealer.

That is really wierd.

These things are on so good you can barely remove them.

They are bolted and glued with doubled sided tape. You should have seen the two guys in our body shop trying to remove one of these when they were prepping the car to paint stripes on a vert.

TWO guys pulling and prying like crazy and they were having a heck of time trying to get it loose from the trunk lid. That tape was some of the strongest stuff. And this was a fresh arrival that was never driven.

Yours looks like it has shifted some. The bolts alone should keep that from happening. Have you checked the bolts to see if they are loose at all?

Looked inside and all the bolts are tight , they do not seem to have been affected, they seem very tight......and I've look closely at it .it has not moved or shifted ....just seemd to have lifted from some sort of force on it , either wind or structual stress...don't know...but it has not been hit or moved in any way....no marks ...nothing but the what you see.

That thing is a mess!!! How's the paint ???? Mom always said not to let the monkeys lose in the garage!!! They have no respect for anything !!! SORRY !!!!

I think he pissed the trunk monkey off.

Edit: On a serious note, mine does not seem to have the adhesive tape on the left side and I can move the spoiler up and down on the left side, the right side is solid. I would say there is an issue with the install on some of these.

2nd Edit: Found the problem I think, mine does have the tape but looks like the installer forgot to remove the backing. I'll post pix in a bit.

Tape is missing from at least the left side of mine and I can also move the spoiler up and down a little on the left, right side is solid.

Tape is on both sides of mine and solid. I tried to wiggle it, and it does not move!

Thank you very much for posting this information. Mine had the same problem but the spoiler hadn't broken yet, so I was able to correct before it was to late. The spoiler installer at Ford forgot to take the backing of the adhesive tape on the left side., right side was OK. I had to loosen the left spoiler bolts and use a pair of tweezers to start pulling the backing off, then slide a blade in to remove it all the way. She is fixed now and I appreciate you posting this problem. post-5223-1180767016_thumb.jpgpost-5223-1180767046_thumb.jpgpost-5223-1180767070_thumb.jpg[attach

Wow I gotta check mine now, I just washed and waxed it and it looked fine but I did'nt check to see if it was loose or not and the tape backing not peeled off is UNACCEPTABLE!

You were washing and waxing at 3:14 am??? Wow you are seriously :kuko:

The first I saw of this was last August, as Mastermechs1 car came in at the dealer off the truck you could see light under his spoiler, it was fixed before he ever saw it.

I don't remember if I ever told him?:ohsnap:

Yep there have been some issues noted early on regarding spoiler fit. I don't remember anyone going to the trouble to document the problem or the fix. I know when I wash mine I lift the trunk when drying because some water hides in the seems. I need to check mine again to make sure it is snug. Thanks for bringing up this problem.

Had a close look at the rear spoiler this morning , went to car wash and cleaned it all up , and it seems that there is no movement and it s not coming loose from the lid. The white stuff you saw was from waxing the decklid, and this has been building up under the spoiler. Had it cleaned up and it's a false alarm......I'll ad a few pic's later to show you ......

where can I get a shop manual, or is there one on line that can be accessed?

thanks
