Shelby Raptor At So. Cal Dealership

I just wanted to post a Shelby Raptor sighting at Huntington Beach Ford. I saw it from the street while taking the family to and from the beach. I obviously have no detailed info to share on it, but the exterior was white with a black wide stripe down the middle. It also had SHELBY decals along the bottom of the truck, like the old GT350 striping. Again, just wanted to share in case some one local is looking for one.

I would guess the major mark-up is two fold. One, they may want to hang on to it for a while for customer draw, and two, there are some people who just must "have it now" that will pay that mark-up because they are hyped up and don't want to wait for the build.

56K for the truck loaded, add 18K for Shelby base package.

My math says 74K.

At 99K, that's one hell of a markup.

Looks like they have a black Shelby Raptor as well.

Actually your Math is wrong........................ They have a bunch of regular 2014 Raptors with the cheapest one at just under $72K and the it goes up to just over $73K so I dont really see that much of a Mark Up.

That pricing is beyond ridiculous. Price it at MSRP or above Invoice and sell them at VOLUME instead of 1 or 2 for a $20k profit.

Friend of mine was looking for a SoCal Raptor and drove up north a few hours to get one just over Invoice. I'd rather have the sale than the markup, but that's just me.

I just bought a 13 Raptor fully loaded. ( Oct 2013 )

Sticker was just shy of 56K.

The base package from SA is 18K.

I wish them well selling regular Raptors at 72K

There marketing tactic of playing on someone not wanting to wait to wait for a build from Shelby may pay off, but it seems like a stretch to me.

Not even upgraded wheels and tires.

Thats one hell of a markup !!!!!

Yes, from how it appears to be optioned, they have about $30K in mark up on that right now....wowsers...... I really do not see how they can have a 20K mark up on standard Raptors. They are selling well at sticker or below everywhere else in the country. There's already a bunch of profit to be made at sticker for them.

That dealer might have mark ups because of the location. Not to far from Huntington Beach is Newport Beach, where a lot of people living in that area are wealthy. Still, I agree that the mark up is way to high! If I was rich, and being a Shelby fan, I would rather be thrifty and buy from a different dealer selling Raptors for far more less, have it sent to SAI, and then wait it out to get the full SAI delivery experience!

I can't see why dealers mark up cars with such a high price. They simply want to sit on them for a long time when they do that.

As a dealer they may be due a little over the cost on the Shelby package. I don't think Shelby makes a wholesale package for dealers so they probably paid full price.

Huntington Beach Ford is HORRID to try to deal with. We tried to buy our 2008 Bullitt from them. Went through this same crap with dealer mark up, blah, blah, blah......

Walked away, went to Fairway in Placentia, and drove home Number 115 that afternoon under sticker........I got your dealer mark up, right here.........!!!!!!

Fairway got me X-Plan on my Focus ST with no drama. Another dealer in the valley wanted $5k over for a FOCUS.

When have you ever seen a big car dealership go out of business or have only a few staff period?! Most car dealers/ main dealerships don't just survive on trying to give you deals of $500 over invoice, they would go outta business!

Of my many dealings over the last 15-20 years have shown me that they buy real low on trade ins as expected and sell high(as expected!) I have seen most making a minimum of probably $3-5000 per transaction.

Yes,$99 thousand seems crazy pricing for sure! Roush has their Raptor renditions, not quite as optioned as Shelby Raptors out there for $70,000 max.

I have 2 friends that are GM's at different dealerships here in town.

Both have said the same thing over and over: the money is in used cars and service department including both warranty work and general repair/service work.

Big or small dealership, they have said it works the same for all.

If they are able to sell new cars at MSRP, this is their gravy.

Yep, new car sales are not what keeps a dealership alive. When we lived in MA in the late 80's we were looking for a jeep (4wd specifically, for snow) and on President's day there was an ad for a dealership down in Cape Cod.The offer was for "invoice". We drove down on Saturday about 10:00 and they place was locked up up but there were some workers doing carpet inside. We looked around the lot and found a few Cherokees we liked. A little after we got there the owner showed up. He was pretty miffed that the guy that was supposed to open at 9:00 hadn't showed up. We told him we wanted to look at a few cars and he told us to scrounge through a file cabinet to find the files on the one(s) we were interested in. I pulled the one on a red truck and lo and behold it had a price of -10000 or so. I told him that he should just give me the car and the cash and we would leave him alone :)

The secret of car dealerships is they have what are called "holdbacks". Of the three or four cars we were interested in two were "negative" cost. He had ordered a whole bunch of Jeeps and one in 10 was "comp'd". He didn't write me a check but we found one that was close and he gave it to me for that price (he didn't even quibble over the differences, I think it was a radio option and we benefitted).
