Kenneth Camp 59459
I bought a 2014 GT500 that I pick up in April. The car is in Ohio and I plan to drive (the scenic route) to Bellingham Washington, where I catch the ferry for a three day boat ride home, to Juneau Alaska. The owners manuals indicate I need to run 91 octane or higher fuel. Here in Juneau the highest I have been able to find is 90 octane. Will I be risking damage to the engine by running 90 octane, or just loose some HP? I am not a mechanic, other than the basic oil and filter change. I do enjoy powerful modes of transportation though. During the summer I run a 40 foot, triple engine jet boat that puts out 1250 HP. Thanks for the help and I hope to see many of you in Vegas for the Bash.
bergenfelter
You should be fine - if the engine sensors detect any detonation in the cylinders the PCM will just start pulling ignition timing until the detonation quits - this - of course - negatively impacts engine power output. Safe travels.
BS Racing
Congrats on the new ride. If you are going to pick it up in April you should try to hit one of the Mustang 50 anaversery shows before heading North.
Kenneth Camp 59459
Thanks for the replies. Since Juneau only has about 45 miles of paved road I probably don't need all 662 HP, though it is nice to know it's there. On my trip home from Ohio I am planning to be in Vegas for the bash April 14, 15 and 16. Hope to see and meet many of you there.
