Ebay And Shill Bidding And Just Down Right Illegal Un Ethical Activities

Recommended Posts

Not sure how many of you use ebay but I have been using it for many years. More and more I run into un ethical and illegal practices such as shill bidding and cancelling auctions once they end. Currently there is a seller with a handful of items listed that cancelled them then re listed them with reserves and now has people bidding up the price for them. All auctions are reported its pathetic and I have had sellers request after auction end request to cancel the auction claiming item accidentally got damaged, I refuse of course and report them and a week later i see the same mint condition item listed for an even higher price. Its pathetic how dishonest and shaddy our society has gotten, people like this are a discrace to our society and make the ability to trust people diminish. If your eBay id is blownz71 you disgust me and ensure I will be doing everything in my power to remove you from eBay! Ok sorry im done with the rant.

Just this Christmas I won an auction for an item. My winning bid was MUCH less then the retail price. A few days after the auction was over, I received an e-mail from the seller saying the 'item was damaged' when they pulled from their warehouse (i.e.garage), and they wanted to cancel the auction because this was the last one they had and they couldn't ship me another one. I immeadiately called FOUL, and told them I didn't believe their story for a second. The only reason I let them off the hook was becasue while looking on-line for another one, I found it on sale at Bascoz's for $10:00 less than my auction bid. I ended up buying it for less than half price, and getting free shipping!

....but don't even get me started on Craig's List.

Similar thing happened to be and I denied cancelling the auction so they just refused to ship the item so I filed a claim and of course paypal says well there hasnt been enough time that has expired yet so I had to wait to get a refund. They claimed their son dropped the item 4 days after auction ended but never bothered to say anything, their response to my email when I asked when can I expect shipping/tracking info was with requesting to cancell transaction. Ebay and paypal wont do anything to force the seller to ship you the item as long as the seller refunds you after you file the claim they keep their account status but they cant force them to refund the money until 30-45 days after auction end so these people can just sit on your item. The crap part was seller re listed the item during all this going on and I brought that to ebays attention stating hey legal binding contract I purchased that it is illegal for them to sell it and ebay still didnt cancel their auction... It has now become the market place of swindling money out of people and as long as ebay gets their cut they are happy.....

Your right but there are some very honest folks too. I've been on there since 1999. Just a few weeks ago I bought the item below for $1300.00. I got the box in a couple of days ago. All brand new and never been opened. I'm still surprised I got it for the money. I guess I've been very lucky.

I was watching them too good buy! I know there are honest people on there but ive been burned now a few times... Be very careful if you purchase from outside of the US. Even though you have 45 days to file a claime from purchase date if after 30 days you file missing/item not received claim ebay pushes back and says wait longer as its from outside and shipping/customs can take longer than 30 days and the only thing the seller has to do is provide a "tracking number" ebay wont even validate it and in my case I bought a helmet for 2000 USD. It was a Dani Pedrosa Official Team Repsol Red Bull Arai. Something you dont ever find. After 30 days I tried to file my claim, I was told I had to wait since it was from overseas. The seller waited 20 days to ship the item out... why I dont know, so they gave him time as he provided a tracking number even though the tracking info provided me absolutely no information other than he shipped something to somewhere on the date he claimed he shipped it... anyway the date it was "due to be delivered" to who knows where was past the 45 day mark so when that date came and went I tried filing my claim and was told it was past 45 days and I was no longer protected..... so needless to say all I could do is leave him negative feedback and I lost out on 2000 USD plus the shipping for near 200. Anyway just sharing some experiences so other people dont get burned by the loop holes... the latest scam I am seeing is what I posted earlier... seller sells and item and then refuses to ship, they get to sit on your money for upwards of 45 days. Its like a payday loan at your expense with zero interest..... effin sucks

One guy bided up a CS Signed Sun Viser that I had listed and then refused to pay, never replied to any of my Emails and it took for ever to get my Sellers Fee back from Ebay. I left negative Feed Back and He did the same to me claiming I was selling fake sigs. I reported him to Ebay several times with no results. As long as Ebay gets theirs, they don't really care.

You definitely have to be careful purchasing on EBAY and Craigslist. Both are target sites for unethical conduct by sellers. I've had good luck most of the time on EBAY and craigslist by dealing locally or with sellers who have very high number of positive ratings.
