Cobra 29
After about 6 months, yesterday, my son and I installed the 2.5" and 90 mm idler pulleys from Van. This installation completed the 2007 - 2012 Combo package upgrade (tune, plugs, pulleys, and JLT Big Cold Air kit) on my 2008 GT500. I delayed the pulley swaps because I was concerned about the process to pull off and press on the blower pulley. From start to finish, my son and I completed the pulley changes in 90 minutes. Pretty good given our first pulley swap. Getting to the belt tensioner was a challenge. We was able to reach it from the top side easy after removing the cooling reservoir mounting bolts and holding the reservoir out of the way. The pulley removal and installation tool from VMP / Justin worked great. We had some tension on the pulley puller and then heard a pop, and the original pulley came off with each bolt turn. The engine was cold. Installation was even easier. The install tool was positioned straight on, and with each turn of the nut, the new pulley was pushed into place. It stopped right on the mark. I have a small but even gap between the belt and the new pulley sides (front and rear). The car ran good with combo kit without the pulleys. But now it gets up to 5 and 10 psi boost much faster. The car seems faster and pulls from a stop with the stock gears (3:31) much better. Thank you to Van and Justin for their advice and parts. 12kyshelby
Glad to hear it went well. Just put this kit on order for my 2012. Looking forward to a few more ponies!
UKGT500
This is a great way to wake up our cars. I have just done a similar install today and only driven around the block (bloody started raining!) and my car seems like a monster now. I have to say my pulley removal and install was quite unpleasant. My old pulley refused to budge even with a huge breaker bar, using the VMP tool and with its' threads well greased. Added some heat from a blowtorch to the pulley only and it started to come off. Seems to have great low down pull. Can't wait for better weather and an open road..... 12kyshelby
Finished the install today. It went very well thanks to the writeups on here and the instructions with the VMP pulley tool. Went for a drive afterwards and can see that boost comes on much faster. Didn't really get to "wring" it out. The roads here are pretty gritty with salt and sand. Temperature was also a little cool for the Goodyears. Looking forward to warmer days!
UKGT500
This is an amazing modification. I took a mate out for a spin today who owns a stock 2008. I also let him drive mine. He is in shock about the difference to response and low down torque this mod makes1 Definitely worth doing, even if it costs nearly double what it costs to do in the USA. It's still worth it. Changes the car completely. Malc
