Return of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350?

The 2015 Ford Mustang has been revealed, but secrets remain.

Along with the official power output for GT models, and a yet-to-be-revealed feature that could be a “burnout button,” there’s the fate of the Shelby model in the Mustang lineup.

Rumor has it that Ford will bring back the Shelby GT350 name to replace the current GT500 model, which is backed up by the fact that Shelby American is discontinuing its post-title GT350 custom Mustang next year.

Now a member of the SVTPerformance.com fan forum has posted what is said to be an order form for Ford dealer promotional materials that lists a Shelby GT350 among the other cars in the automaker’s stable, lending additional credence to the rumors.

Instead of just changing names, the new Shelby will reportedly swap the bonkers 662 hp supercharged V8 found in the 202 hp GT500 for a tamer, naturally aspirated V8, with the rest of the car getting handling upgrades aimed at making it a road course monster in the spirit of the original 1965 GT350.

That said, it’s very possible an all-new GT500 could return in a couple of years.

Whatever it ends up being called, spy photographers have caught a couple of camouflaged prototypes of the hot Mustang testing in Michigan, including a video of one with the motor at full song.
