grobertx
Well now that I'm pushing close to 700HP at the wheels I need to work on the traction (or lack thereof)... I know nothing about this stuff other than what I read online. My mod-shop has made recommendations. Any thoughts on these and the expected results?? 11-14 Shelby GT500 Chrome Moly Street Rear Control Arm Package 07-14 Shelby GT500 Pro Street Double Adjustable Pan Hard Bar I'm really interested in wider back tires but I want (will) keep the factory PP wheels. I know there are multiple post about this but any new ideas on wider back tires but keeping the factory PP wheels?
Murraymartini
I would contact Van @ Revan Racing for this suspension upgrade package!
HyperStangs
Van's got a good package indeed, pretty much BMR parts: LCA's, adjustable pan hard and UCA. Those will do the trick and be a step above the package your shop suggested. There are probably a thousand ways to skin this cat and tons of threads on the matter. Just my .02¢: If you want to keep the factory wheels, send the rears to Eric Vaughn to have them widened about an inch. One thing people don't realize however is that wider rears will create MORE understeer. Now if you like going in a straight line thats all hunky dory, but I like to run circles around Porsches. I'm not really into drags, but I do it from stoplight to stoplight. Remember also, I don't sell parts so I like to think of myself as being an objective bystander. I've also tried nearly everything from (here's a name a few guys will remember ) Global West on my first '94 Cobra and GR40 on my Saleen S351 to the full Cortex on my current GT500 (nearly there). There's a fine line between performance and comfort, you have to decide where you want to be. You can't have both. There really isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. I like to feign ignorance when I call parts manufacturers and see what they sell me, and I ask all the wrong questions. I don't bother telling them I have 20 years of racing and a full virtual suspension design program to my name, not to say I can't still learn a thing or two. There's such a wealth of knowledge on this board (this really is the best one), either do more searches or narrow down your honest goals for your car and ask specific questions. In the end, you'll be really happy making a more informed decision.
Secondo
Evolution Performance's '13 GT500 ran 9's with bolt-ons using Steeda "Hardcore" suspension parts. http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/2013-shelby-gt500-413/893370-2013-gt500-breaks-into-9-s-using-steeda-parts.html
ingram4868
As Jeff stated there are a number of ways to improve your suspension. I would like to add my 2 cents to recommend that you stay with one supplier. Suspension parts are often designed to compliment each other within a manufacturers designed objectives. When you mix and match parts and your not getting the results you had hoped then making adjustments becomes more difficult to identify and tweak. TurboGT
Call Filip at CorteX. Get a spare set of rear wheels with drag radials or slicks for the strip. They don't take long to change out & don't take up much room in the garage. You will be frustrated trying to hook up street tires at the strip. grobertx
Thanks for the tips guys.. To better clarify what I am seeking: More traction when hammering pedal from a roll in 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Right now if I nail it down from a roll in either 1st or 2nd the tires will break loose & WCS swing sideways. To add more detail I do not want to make the car less track capable than stock while seeking some traction improvement for straight-line digs... My OP was seeking advice on the recommended "UPR" parts of my local shop. I'm not a shade tree mechanic and prefer to pay someone else to do the dirty work... They prefer UPR so; 1. UPR good parts? and 2. Will the parts do anything for my OP (traction)? Please note that due to my driveway (steep) I cannot lower my car at all...(I have to back in at angle now). bdiesel6.4@gmail.com
Grober.. Do you have your 3 piece splitter installed? I can't vouch for upr as I have complete bmr setup but I will say that the install was a piece of cake.. I saved $650 by doing it myself.. Did the uca, lca and panhard all with relocation brackets as well.. Can hug turns at speed and straight line hook is spot on.. Hit van up at Revan Racing and see what he can do for you.. HyperStangs
I'll only echo what's been said earlier, try not to mix manufacturers as most packages are built to work in concert. If you have BMR LCA's, I'd stick with the BMR upper. I've no direct experience with UPR parts, I've not heard anything negative... BUT, I know the BMR part is solid. No on the splitter; it would never go up my driveway with that on. Its still in the plastic bags stored in my garage... Thanks to everyone; if I understand the replies; a respected matching brand LCR and adj panhard will help my traction issues while not negatively affecting the stock track abilities of the car. It was also suggested to go with Nitto or MT DR on the back... Thinking of going up 1 size as I want wider tires, don't mind the "donut" look and do not want to change wheels... I've got suggestions of MT ET street radial 2 305/35-20 or Nitto NT 555R 305/35-20. Do you guys mix brands of tires on your DD cars?? (Nitto rear / GY stock on front)
