twobjshelbys
Most of Boulder County is under flood watch but the St. Vrain river through Lyons is totally out of its banks. They are describing it as a 500 year flood. We are OK, but our part of town is isolated from the rest of the area. The bridge that goes into town had a foot and half of water over the roadbed at 7:00. The rest of the area around is underwater. The road to the north (towards Estes Park) is flooded out as well. Word was that water was over the top of Longmont Dam (Button Rock Reservior) and that is the source of a lot of our water besides our own watershed of about 4-5 more miles up. The ground is totally saturated. It has rained almost solid for 3 days, our gauge now says we've gotten almost 5.75 inches here since Monday. We are without electricity as of about 8:00AM, I'm on laptop battery and cell phone hot spot. We still have water pressure but since the lines cross the St. Vrain river twice (I believe under the bridges not in the river bed) the fact that we have water pressure may change at any time. We are under a boil order and have water stored in buckets and bathtubs. Here's CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/12/us/flooding-colorado/?hpt=us_c2 Wish us luck! We are OK but my best friend's house is gone. He argued about having flood insurance, I sure hope he's happy they made him get it.
twobjshelbys
I have some pictures and video but the batteries won't last long enough to upload them. We're told not to expect power for 3 days or more.
2010KonaBlueGT
We're getting pounded down here too. Mostly Manitou Springs and Hwy. 24 but Fountain Creek is nasty. They just found the body of a man in Fountain Creek. Phill

The creek next to the house was up a good two foot and the water was really moving fast. Stay dry everyone. verlyn12
The rain was here last weekend. 4-8 inches in a few hours from Bowman ND to Bison, SD. Basements flooded and creeks running fast. I haven't heard of anyone losing homes but the crops that were still standing were hit pretty hard and lots of big hail in the area, too. We are in rolling prairie so we don't have the flood threat that exists in the mountains or desert. The force of Mother Nature is nothing to take lightly. Hope you all are safe. NMAv
Water coming off the mountain is getting worse. The stream next to our house is running 3 foot deep, normally it is a trickle.
mikeljgt500kr
We are getting a lot of rain here too, but unlike Boulder, we don't have so many people trying to keep their stash dry and their joints lit....
2010KonaBlueGT
Water coming off the mountain is getting worse. The stream next to our house is running 3 foot deep, normally it is a trickle. Watch out up there J. I saw reports last night that said Ft. Carson got 5 inches of rain in ONE HOUR. We're (you and I) aren't too far from Carson. We're seeing gutters with 4' (wide) streams on both sides of our street, with a 'one lane' clear area down the middle of the crown. I just looked out my back window and see that the retention pond is FULL (might have gone over the spillway) for the first time since I've lived here. I have a low area behind my house to allow me a walk-out basement and I'm worried of the storm drain clogs, I'll get the run-off and flooding in my basement. But other than that, I think I'm safe. Be careful of that 'stream' As you can see by the news, a stream out here can turn into a river in a matter of minutes. And for some damn reason, we seem to lose a couple of people EVERY year to the drainage ditches. The kids like to play in them and don't realize that the heavy rain UP NORTH, comes down those drainage ditches in a huge wave. JeffJ
We're good at my place. Lots of flooding and closed roads around, but we sit a bit higher than the areas around us. Took a bit of driving around to find open roads to get to work this morning. I had to open some head gates on our lake which is now flooding our fields so that the lake doesn't break over, but that is nothing for what other folks are going through. The main highway in the Denver area (I-25) is now closed north of Denver and is looking like it may have some structural damage due to all the debris and water passing under (and over it now) from the rising rivers. HARALD KELLEY
All you folks out there keep a situational awareness. Be safe and prayers. National Geographic has had several stories about climate change the storms becoming more severe. California fires are becoming more intense due to the dryer conditions. We get 6" inches of rain and I think the area will swim away. Heck we only get about 12" a year in my area. Rev Dennis
I was out there (Colorado - Big Thompson) in the 70's the summer of the great flood. I was amazed at the power of water rolling down hill. Bridges taken out like they were made of an erector set. Concrete bulkheads just pushed aside. I hope you all come through this OK. twobjshelbys
We were told to leave. All about 2500 of us. With no sanitation and water this is going to be an unhealthy place. We are dry. There are so many trucks and heavy equipment it's not safe to be out and about either. National guard and FEMA everywhere. We art told we can lock our houses or not our choice. I don't want a looter to destroy the 2000 front door but I don't want to not know they e been either It could be 4-6 weeks or longer before we are allowed to return. The gt is in the garage but I give it a 60-40 chance it will still be here when we come back They said we might be able to "visit" in a few weeks to get whatever else we need and by that time prepare to winterized I helped a friend move stuff out of his flooded house. It was mud 5-6 inches deep inside in places. Water 1.5-2' inside on the drywall. Place was already starting to smell musty and mold will follow. I think in the end many houses on this street will be razed and not rebuilt we will be leaving tomorrow or Monday. I will be able to post some pics once we get back to civilization
