07SGT
Well, none of us are overly satisfied with our cheap silver stripes. And I know some have had their stripes painted on rather than using more of the cheap tape. So I am curious, what effect will that have at auto shows, collectability, etc. Is there anyone here from MCA or other judges that could comment? ITHERTZ66
All the original '65/66 style Shelby cars were painted in single stage paint from the Ford Factory. The stripes were painted on the top at Shelby. The factory masking/prep for the stripes was average at best and left a ridge and overspray in areas, too.. Does anybody restore them that way now? Uh...not really. Does it hurt the value? Nope. Heck, NONE of the '67 Shelbys even had over the top stripes. That doesn't seem to effect the value when they are selling for well over 100K with owner added stripes - let alone with clear coat. Paint 'em - do it right. You won't be sorry. SGT3477
mine are all painted back on and all i hear is how good they look " the last time i saw one it had spot all over the stripes" is what i typically hear. i went through 2 sets of tape as mine is outside and DD and i fight MoNature every weekend to keep her as close to show ready as i can. painted is all the way to go. no question.. unless its a garage queen. where mine hopes to retire in the spring. Elgin Black
I have a about as perfect set of stock stripes on my 07 as you would find and the ones on my wifes 08 are painted. I think the painted ones look the best hands down. Edited September 28, 2013 by slygray1
kryptonite
As far as the MCA is concerned, if you're car makes it to concours level, the original striping is something they look for and will take points off for the painted stripes. As far as any other shows, I wouldn't worry about it. Most are only concerned with how clean your car is.
Elgin Black
I have found the MCA shows have a lot of judges that operate on their own opinions and not always facts. They would probably deduct points for a slight flaw in your tape stripes also. Most of the MCA concourse cars are probably garage queens and only driven on and off trailers. I aiso am a member of the MCA. Edited September 28, 2013 by slygray1
JeffIsHereToo
If you're going to compete in MCA concourse events I would put on a nice set of stripes and, like most concourse cars, cover it in the garage and trailer it. If you intend to drive the car, compete in local shows, then go ahead and paint them on. As far as collectability, IMHO, buy the time it matters, most of us won't be around to care. SGT/SC#0471
What Jeff said... I bought an MCA gold mustang and it was a trailer queen in every sense. I also sold that car. Strange niche of the car hobby IMO but grateful so done does it to keep the examples if stock from yesteryear around...I think...;@)
kstrong
Had my stripes painted on about two weeks after I purchased the car. In 2007 Verts did not have over the top stripes. Only side stripes. When you wax or polish the car, you will love having painted on stripes. I drive the car. Maybe some day I'll do shows for trophies.. jtubbs
Does anybody have a good paint code for the silver stripes? I've read the entire hood stripes thread and only came up with an 08 SGT with "Satin Silver" paint code M7049A, Sherwin Williams #63454. I'd like to take my 07 SGT to paint over the winter and get rid of these horrible stripes.

roblectric
Havent gotten used to the new hood pin lanyards being so long. Will be shortening them up over the winter.

ilmor
My 2007 tape stripes still look like new (garaging does help!)...although, someday I realize I may have to get new stripes (tape or painted). The thing I worry about most is finding someone who is actually qualified to do it and that can do it correctly.

I'd like to take my 07 SGT to paint over the winter and get rid of these horrible stripes. PPG paint code "TL" or "Satin Silver Metallic" is what your hood scoop was painted with here at SAI. It does not match the metallic content of the vinyl stripes (go compare them on your car), but is what was used at the time. We've since formulated a new mix that we use for replacement SGT scoops, matches the vinyl exactly. More sparkle. Email me for more details. mobleyr
All, Read thru the threads and was wondering where I can get an authorized shelby body repair shop listing. I have a complete set of stripes for my GT-H and want to get an authorized shop to replace them along with some touch up of the paint. My car was a rental in southern florida and the stripes are faded with now needed fixing the bumpers (front and rear). This is since the car sales company after receiving the car from Hertz painting the bumpers then painting stripes on them. The painted stripe colors don't match the taped ones. Car is in Northern Florida; looking for a shop that I can trust and it the work would be under warranty. Thanks.....
ITHERTZ66
So you have a car with hood, trunk, rocker and roof vinyl stripes, and the front and rear bumpers have painted stripes?
Jer
Hey Jer, That color looks pretty darn good. Can you post a pic with that scoop against a good set of original stripes? It's an exact match. We used a brand new set of stripes for comparison. We even walked around the car 360 degrees, and the color shifted the exact same way at every angle in the sunlight. Elgin Black
Jer,just curious. Did the new scoop I got within the last two months have the new paint color? I bought it to have just in case it starts to sag. For now it looks great. I figure I'll have the car for a long time and you never know when the scoops may not be available anymore. I did replace the scoop on my wifes 08 SGT-C this past summer.

HARALD KELLEY
Terlingua hood is functional and extracts heat where the GT-H hood is not and only has a faux grill like the side scoops.
